Have you ever heard of fairytales? All of them are true! My mother is Snow White and my father is Prince Charming. I live in small town called Storybrooke. It is in Maine. I have a twin out in the world somewhere. I can feel her, talk to her, I even know her name. Her name is Emma. I can communicate with her in visions or dreams. The year is 2014, but my twin sister and I will not be turning 28 until May 16. We still have sometime before my other ‘half’ comes to save us. Before she gets here, I should tell you my backstory, that way you get to understand me as a person.

I live in Storybrooke with my mother, Mary Margret in this land. As I grew up, I went to classes, just like any other kid. The only difference is that as I aged and went up in school, the other kids never did. I felt something was wrong, but my mama told me that I was special and that nothing was wrong. Everything was fine, but it wasn’t. The mayor, Regina, has something evil around her. I can’t put my finger on it, but she’s always been really mean to my mom and me. I didn’t find out what was going on until I was 14. I needed a walk, and be away from all the drama of the town. I went to the woods to think. I have always thought better on my feet than anywhere else.

I found a book in my mother’s closet, a story book. It wasn’t anything unusual, except the fact that my mother looked just like Snow White, she even has the same personality! I didn’t know what to think, so I ran to the woods with the book. As I read, I realized that everything in Storybrooke did not look the way it was. First, I realized that I had a sister that I had been communicating with in my dreams. I thought that they were just a dream of a sister. Second, my mother is Snow White, making my father Prince Charming. I grew up without a father, I could never find him. Mom always told me that he left her, left us. I need to make that lie be gone with truth. I need to find my daddy. I remember, I was about to turn back around and head to the hospital, when I heard a man scream in pain. I didn’t know what I was thinking but I ran towards the sound. I was probably thinking that I could help the man. I found a man on the ground grabbing his ankle.

I asked the man, “are you okay? Do you need help? What happened?”

He grunted and shaking his head said, “I tripped down the slippery slope. My ankle. I think it is sprained. Do you think you can help me back to my house? It’s just down the street.”

I didn’t know what to say. It might be a trick. Regina is the Evil Queen, and know that I might be able to help Emma break the curse. What would Snow do? I need my mama to help! That’s it! My mama would help anyone in need, that’s what I must do. “Yes, I can help you. I’ve never seen you in Storybrooke before, so you’ll have to help me find your house,” I reply to the man getting up, wincing as he does.

“Great! Thank you so much,...,” the man says.

“Elizabeth. Eliza to my friends.. and you are?”

“Sassy. And straight to the point, just like your father. Name’s Jefferson.” the man replies.

“You know my father? Even I don’t know him! Please tell me what you know of him. Was he a good man? Did he die or abandon my mother and I?”  I ask, desperately, as I let Jefferson lean on me.

He smirks. A smirk that makes my heart beat a little faster. “I’m not going to tell you a thing until we get back to my house. I barely have enough energy to walk, much less talk.”

“Oh, you’re such a baby. Let’s go and get you home.”

It turns out that Jefferson is the mad hatter. Now don’t get me wrong, he is a great guy. The night that we met, he tricked me to come to his house, more like a mansion, because he wanted me to know the truth. I’m not crazy, Storybrooke is the result of a curse. This land has no magic, everyone has no idea who they are, and Regina is responsible. Jefferson has his memories before the curse. He says that Regina gave him this because every day he can watch his daughter, Grace, love her ‘fake’ family, and know nothing about him. If he approaches Grace, she has no idea that her father is the one talking to her. It must be awful.
