Mary's POV
I'm laying in my bed staring at the white ceiling above me. Yesterday I returned home. I'm still shocked about what happened the last minutes I was there, with Francis. God, where did I get myself into. It's so complicated, we're together, we're not together, we're together, we're not. I just think that we're 'friends with benefits' But that doesn't make sense, because my feelings for him are true, I really really like him. I just wish that it wasn't this complicated, that we could be together, that I could wake up in his arms, slowly untangle myself from his grip and then put his shirt on and walk downstairs to make breakfast in bed for him. But it isn't that easy. There is Lis, there is school, next year I'll be a senior and then after that we'll be going to college. Then everything will change. Oh, Francis.
Somebody calls me. I'm shocked by the name that I see on my phone. Lis. I'm doubting whether to pick up.
"Hey?" I ask confused.
"Mary, what happened between you and Francis?" She asked calmly, I knew what she was trying, I've heard that voice a million times. She's trying to get answers from me by being so innocent.
"What do you mean?" I ask, returning that calm voice, hoping to get some answers of where she's going with this.
"I mean like did you have fun with him?" She asked, still calm.
"Oh, definitely, he's such a great friend." I said. Of course he's more than that, but she doesn't need to know that. I was hoping that she would realise that me and Francis only made a mistake kissing when she saw it and that she would know that we're nothing more than friends. All of this is a lie.
"Friend?" She asked. Suddenly her enthusiasm dropped, she sounded like she heard terrible news, not angry, but disappointed or worried.
"Yes." I said, still calm. I became worried. What was happening?
No answer.
"Lis, you're still there?" I asked. Becoming more worried every second she didn't answer, I heard her breath but nothing more.
"Yeah, yeah I'm here." She said,
"Can I come over?" I asked hoping that she could tell me why the hell she was asking me about this.
"I'm sorry but I'm not home." She said, regaining her enthusiasm.
"Oh that's fine, bye?" I asked/said.
She hung up.
I looked at my phone for a while and then threw the thing next to me. Going back to staring at my ceiling. She's lying. She must be. I grabbed my phone again and then went to locations. It was true, she isn't home. I googled the address. She's in an atelier. Well, I guess she wasn't lying. I texted Francis asking if I could come over, no answer. He usually answers fast, but now he doesn't, weird? I texted him that I'm coming over if he wants it or not.
"Dad, can you drive me to Lis?" I asked him, he looked up from his newspaper and than put it away.
"Sure." He said, he fixed his suit and then grabbed the keys and before I knew it I was already sitting in the car putting the radio on and fixing my hair in one of the mirrors.
The ride was silent, as usual, my dad and I aren't really close. I listened to the songs on the radio and looked out of the windows at the road. I drive almost everyday, sometimes even twice. When we turned into Lis' neighbourhood I looked at myself in the mirror to make sure I'm looking good, that's great.
"You're looking great." My dad said, when he noticed I was looking in the mirror again.
"Thanks." I said and walked out of the car and waved at him as he turned around and left. Leaving me standing alone in the front yard of they're house.
