Lucia
The air turned black all around me. My heart was pounding out of my chest as I saw the blood. I screamed as I was reaching for my phone to call the police.
Have you ever wondered what it was like to almost witness a murder? I have many times before, but in the moment it was happening my body felt paralyzed. I watched my own father get attacked by a mysterious person dressed in all black. I couldn't see the person's face because it was too dark, I wasn't focused on catching the person; just helping my dad get to safety. After the events of that night took place, my dad moved me and my brother to Long Island to start over.
Starting at a new school in a new town was not what I was hoping for while finishing my junior year. Evidently, my family is big on protecting and serving our country, my father is a police officer for New York City Police Department and he worked for Midtown South; right in the heart of the city. My dad wanted to protect me, my mom, and brother from what his attacker could do. He knows who the person is, but its a secret he can't tell us and that is what bothers me. He can't talk about his cases or else it would be tampering with evidence supposedly.
I shivered thinking about it.
I looked at myself in the mirror for the first time in a while. I couldn't look into my own eyes without seeing what happened. I forgot about my long brown hair, golden brown eyes; my eyes looked really worn out and tired. I sighed brushing my hair and putting on some make-up. I actually look like a human, I thought to myself. I rolled my eyes and put on my uniform. My Dad want's me and my brother to have a good education since he is able to afford private school. Long Island is a place full of chaos, but not like the city. Many people here get so angry while they drive.
I got in my car when I was finished with breakfast, I said bye to my parents. My brother already went to school because he had basketball tryouts. My brother is a very quiet person, he doesn't like to talk to anyone, but when he plays basketball and football; he is not shy.
I miss talking to him about my problems. He doesn't want to talk to me for some reason and hasn't in months. What did I do? I walked into the front office and the lady told me to wait while the principle is done with another student.
The air in the room felt so small, but the room was spacious. There were many offices down the hallway indicating that their were many guidance counselors and other members of faculty. I felt so awkward being the only person in the office.
I saw a very angry person come out of the office and slam the door. The boy mumbled a foul word under his breath. He glanced at me and kept walking out of the office. Gee, what got up his ass? It's literally the first day of school. His eyes were a deep green blue color, his hair was curly and black which made his eyes stand out even more. He had a greek god type of body and it was hard not to stare.
"Lucia?" the voice called out snapping me out of my trance. It was the voice of a woman, she sounded pretty young. I sat down in the chair in front of her desk.
"Welcome to Prestonwood, I am Headmistress Conlon. I see your parents already filled out the paperwork for you to start already. I want you to know that your dad told me about his accident and the guidance counselors are here for you and your brother." She said. I nodded my head letting her know that I appreciated it. I don't like talking about what happened much.
"Furthermore, you must know the rules of private schools already; no drugs on campus, or alcohol if any student is caught doing either you will automatically be expelled. Just focus on studying and working hard." Blah blah blah, yeah lady I know, I thought.
"Since you're new, we have other students show new students around." Headmistress Conlon said. A girl with really long beautiful black curly hair showed up. Her figure is very small, but in a good way. Her almond shaped eyes fit beautifully on her face. "If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to come to my office." The headmistress said as the girl and I walked out of the room.
"She can be a handful can't she?" The girl said.
"Quite the handful." I said agreeing with her.
"I'm Karina Black." She said holding her hand out to shake mine. "Nice to meet you!" I said shaking it.
"Prestonwood isn't that bad, just typical jocks, morons, and idiots." She said in a low voice. I chuckled, yeah private schools are really like that.
"What are the people like here?" I asked.
"Where are you from?" Karina asked.
"Manhattan. The Upper East Side is way different from Long Island." I said.
"Wow, the Upper East side. You must be really rich!" She said.
"Apparently." I said looking down at my feet.
"People here aren't so bad once you get to know them. Stay clear of Jayden Gray and Marcus Carter. They are both jerks and will bully anyone." Karina said.
"Thanks for the tip." I said.
"Also, there are mean girls here too- Candace Scott, Mia Parker, and Kira Ziegler. Stay clear of all the names I mentioned." Karina said.
"Why?" I asked. "What did they do?" I was just curious about the people I am going to start school with.
"You'll see. Anyway let me show you to your locker before the bell rings and to your classes." Karina said.
"Thanks." I said.
Karina finished showed me where my locker and classes were. This school is small, so it shouldn't be hard to find my way around. It was like all the air kept closing around me. You know how in movies there is a wall and if you don't escape the wall closing you die? That's how it feels for me. I was walking when I bumped into something very hard, it literally knocked me off my feet and onto the floor. I groaned.
"Ow. What was that for?!" I said not realizing what I just said. I looked up and it was the kid from the office I saw earlier.
"Why the fuck are you running into people without paying attention?" He asked rudely. The venom in his voice scared me.
"S-sorry." I said.
"S-sorry. Stutter much?" He said mocking me. What is wrong with this kid? Seriously.
"What is wrong with you?" I asked.
"Excuse me?" He asked. I rolled my eyes and got back up. "You heard me. I don't know who you think you are, but you do not get to talk to me like that!" I said. His nostrils flared. "You don't know who the fuck you're dealing with." He said.
I smirked. "Oh really. You think you're that special huh?" I said. "Well, you're not. So get over yourself and move the hell out of my way." There was a crowd forming around us. I looked around and walked away because I didn't want to make a scene on my very first day.
Well that went well... I suppose. I just hope the rest of the day doesn't go to shit.
Well guy's welcome to my new book, this is a sneak peak. Sorry I have been gone for a long time. I was dealing with school, getting promotions at work and all that fun jazz. But if you like this story and want more, vote and follow me!
