its Halloween

Unsurprisingly you got added to a group chat with Xiao, Lumine, and Aether but not really minding it much since youve had nothing but pleasant conversations with them.

You may have talked to them instead of doing you homework but hey! The good part is your making new friends.

Getting ready for Halloween is pretty cool but its a lot of work and your face is irritated from all the times you re-did your eyeliner.

But just as you finish Xiao comes next to you and whispers a "boo" which you jump out of your own skin not expecting him to be in your room "When did you get here???" You yell

"You should really lock your window" he laughs "And you should not come through peoples windows? what the fuck Xiao" you sigh calming yourself down from the scare that you just got.

Looking at Xiao you see that you did a good job on picking the costume for him he looks so cool "Damn I did a good job on picking the costume for you" she says eyeing him up and down

"Stop checking me out" he says weirded out "awww, but but I'm looking respectfully" she says "even though theres nothing to look at" mumbling the last part.

Ducking before a pillow gets thrown at your face "violence is not the answer Xiao" she tuts "anyways lets go!"

After scaring kids for a bit and stealing the whole bowl of candy you retreat back to secluded area deciding to just sit on the floor "Why cant we go home?" Xiao asks annoyed

"cause-" you dont get to finish your sentence before you get a "y/n?" by a voice you recognize as Aether "oh hi Aether!" you say turning in the direction of the voice "hi Lumine!" you say greeting the girl dressed in a mummy costume "Hi." She greets back.

"Wow Xiao you look so cool" Aether marvels "thanks" is all he says in return "what are you guys doing?" Aether asks "trick-or-treating" you answer sarcastically.

He just laughs "Well obviously but what are you doing on the floor... with a bowl of candy" Your eyes widen vefore you shove the whole bowl of chocolates into your pillow case.

"What bowl? Anyways I was just eating candy cause its Halloween" she says like she didnt just shove a whole ass bowl of candy in her pillow case.

"Okayyyy" he says the going to talk to Xiao about something while you talk to lumime

She compliments your Halloween outfit and you do the same genuinely enjoying her company "Hey Lumine can you tell me about your travels?" the girl asks curiosity brimming in her eyes.

"Yeah sure" is all she says before talking about all the different cultures languages and foods shes tried and known.

Making propositions to you one day cooking some for you in which you agree cause who wouldnt wanna try new things.

laughing until Aether gets a call sighing he mutters a few yeahs before saying "Lumine we gotta get home, mom said its past out curfew" he sighs

"Oh, I didnt even notice" she says getting up from the floor "Yeah see you at school on Monday" she says waving before setting off.

"See you!" You yell back "Alright Xiao lets head home and watch corny scary movies!" you laugh "alright lets go" he says offering his hand to help you up.

Pulling you up with an exaggerated groan "your an asshole" is all you say jokingly.

Walking past a park you suddenly stop "Look! It's the park we used to play at as kids" you say jumping up and down going to it laughing.

He just stares at you and sighs after you got over your miny sugar rush off being at the park you look at your phone the bright display of numbers saying 11:30 no kids are out anymore being a little to late.

Putting your phone back into your pocket you sigh "cmon y/n, lets get home" he says walking away only for you not to respond.

You wish your mom was more worried about where you were so late at night but its not like it matters never being that close with your mom has never been an issues why is it now?

Getting lost in more self deprecating thoughts before you feel Xiao pull your arm down causing you to slide down the well slide.

Putting each of his arms on the slide successfully caging you between him and the slide. looking up at him he looks so pretty even though you can barely see his face.

Deciding against saying anything you just stare watch as he looks at you until you see him slowly getting closer.

Wanting so desperately for him to just kiss you already hes already so close to you. His breath fanning your lips its... warm compared to the contrast of the cold night.

And he gets impossibly closer before he pulls away wordlessly. "but-" you start before he just mutters a "lets go"

Walking with him not speaking of what happened "about what happened just... ignore it, it never happened and we won't talk about it"

"oh, yeah... anyways im gonna go home" she says trying to keep her voice from wavering taking out a key and going straight into her house.

Xiao being left standing there... alone "dammit" he curses under his breath it was mistake.

He doesnt want to ruin what you have cause he cant loose you theres so many what ifs and those are risks hes not willing to take just yet.

Dropping your candy on the floor of your room you go over and close your curtains and lock the window then deciding to take a shower but not a hot nice shower to warm you up.

A cold one put your body into shock to stop yourself from crying "im not gonna cry over a boy right now" she mutters starting the shower not caring to take off the make up the shower will do that for her

undressing and sitting in the shower putting your face in your hands not willing to cry over a boy

"i will not cry over him, hes my best friend" you say over and over again

Meanwhile Xiao doesnt know what to do with himself why did he just do that? does he have feelings for you? impossible. your his best friend. youve been best friends for years now he cant have feelings for his only friend

he cant and he wont sighing when he walks in and straight to his room flopping on his bed he sees your curtains closed something you rarely did

sighing he wants to text you but what does he even say?? that hes sorry? hi? you cant come over now it'll be far to awkward he decides to just let you be and wait for this whole thing to blow over.

this is a slow burn (?) kinda its not to fast at least imo yall aint no one getting a happy ending just yet
