26. blood and expectations

with mayumi joining the magic school as a teacher (her return in general), came the spread of the information. there really was someone who loved to leak all this news, huh?

she wouldn't have minded if people knew that she had returned to japan and started teaching, but what bugged her was the fact that her children were involved in this spread.

news reached those in the clans of her children, satoru's children. as the head of the gojo clan, he's expected to bear the responsibility of running the clan. but it was not only that, he was expected to produce children for the future.

oh he definitely wanted children for the future, but it was going to be one where naomi and tomio could choose their paths. unlike how he grew up, they weren't going to be tied down by chains.

he would love to train them as sorcerers for the next generation, but if they didn't want to then it was alright with him. satoru wouldn't want to have his children suffocate, he wouldn't want to see that happening to someone again.

but his and mayumi's opinions differed of those from the gojo clan.

after speaking with the higher-ups, who were criticizing her for leaving, mayumi's buisness was at the gojo estate. there she was greeted with the woman who still worked there after all these years.

"mayumi-sama," izumi bowed.

that head of dark brown hair had thinned out a bit, the bun smaller than before. most of her hair was turning grey as well, more obvious than the previous time mayumi saw the older woman.

"no need for the -sama. just call me as you always have," mayumi waved it off.

she didn't like being called such because it made her seem that she was more important than others. it was because she wasn't, she was just mayumi kamiya. a sorcerer, teacher, girlfriend, and mother.

izumi nodded, and the pair had begun to walk to the section where katsu and kayo gojo awaited them. the grandparents of mayumi's children requested to meet in private, and behind satoru's back.

mayumi could only guess why they didn't want him to know. even when she met them at a younger age, she could tell how fake they were. using their child to rise in ranks, how awful.

"so what is being a mother like?" izumi questioned.

"it was difficult, it still is pretty challenging of course. but it's like a weight has been lifted off me when coming back to tokyo," was mayumi's response, "even including all of these challenges, i would do it all over again."

every hardship and setback she had brought her to right now. she was finally extremely happy after so long, after losing what was most important to her.

to get to this point again, mayumi would go through the pain once more.

both women soon enough arrived at where the couple was waiting, the housemaid bowing down before standing near the door. mayumi walked in further and sat across satoru's parents.
