it didn't even reach seven in the morning when mayumi had left the house. she had waken up in the arms of satoru, something she had missed too much for her own good.

mayumi escaped his arms, quietly getting ready before walking to the store and then her destination. and that final destination happened to be the cemetery.

she arrived at the five dark grey columns that were grouped together, further than most of the others. each of the five displayed a name of the deceased kamiya family.

the woman took the pail filled with water, setting it down next to the plastic bag so she would be able to pick up the ladle.

the water ran down each of the gravestones, mayumi then setting the items aside. she noticed how clean it already was, and could only guess who came to visit.

mayumi continued with placing the flowers in the vases and burning the incense, so all that she had left to place was her offerings. in front of each gravestone was the favorite food of the person.

what she did next was to bring her hands together, closing her eyes to pray. mayumi's eyes opened when she finished, hands dropping to her sides.

"i'm sorry," were the first words that escaped her mouth, "i'm sorry for different things, but to all of you. to kyoko, ryo, and takeshi for not being able to live out your teen years."

the twins would've been twenty one this year; adults. ryo and takeshi would've gotten their dream jobs, which mayumi known the would have worked insanely hard for.

an artist and an editor, that's what she saw them working as. kyoko would've worked in the food industry, maybe a food journalist because she would get to travel around and try something from many different backgrounds.

"i'm sorry to you, mom and dad. i wanted to become strong for you guys but i failed. you also couldn't meet the grandchildren you wished for, and they're of course satoru's children as well. naomi and tomio are their names."

mayumi recalled the times where mariko would bring up satoru and mayumi having kids. she guessed that there would be twins.

"just a mother's instinct."

well that mother instinct was correct. tomio and naomi were the frateneral twins that proved mariko's prediction.

kenji would've loved having to play with his grandchildren, spoiling them as satoru would. it was a life that mayumi could only dream of.
