29. soon-to-be dead man

being the strongest sorcerers meant that satoru and mayumi were usually busy people outside of teaching. but the one thing they would set time for in their schedule around or during missions are the ones they hold dearest to their hearts.

the red-haired woman was out on a mission and was set to come back tomorrow as satoru himself was assigned one. the problem was that he wasn't sure where to bring the kids.

both his and mayumi's students were supposed to be training together. this meant two different things. one, no one's eyes would be on them at all times. two, tomio or naomi could get themselves accidentally involved and get injured.

those were things he preferred to avoid.

so what he did was bring the twins along with him. he effortlessly exorcised the high-grade cursed spirit without batting an eye and letting the two four year olds see.

satoru then brought them into town as he had to patrol around the area for other curses as well. the two children happily skipped as they roamed around.

"papa," tomio tugged on the man's sleeve so that he would come to a halt. naomi did the same as her twin pointed to a shop. "can we go there? i wanna have ice cream."

naomi's eyes sparkled at the thought of a cold sweet treat in the summer heat, "yeah! can naomi have some too? pretty please?"

satoru was no cold-hearted man when it came to his children. so when he saw the pleading in their eyes, there was just no way he could possibly deny them of their wants.

"of course you two can!" he scooped them up and carried one of the pair on each side, "you can get them as big as you want. just don't tell your mama i was spoiling you too much."

the trio of gojos went inside of the shop, the bell over the door that satoru almost reached the height of ringing as an indication of their entry.

"hello," the woman behind the counter greets with a smile and a slight blush. satoru had his glasses on instead of his blindfold because the twins liked it that way. his looks would always attract attention. she continued, "what can i get for you today?"

"we can choose any?" naomi asked her father, who nodded.

he responded, "any flavor's fine."

both naomi and tomio gave their requests. the older twin asked for strawberry ice cream with whipped cream as it reminded her of the color of her hair, and the younger one asked for mint chocolate chip in a chocolate-dipped cone.

"you heard the little lady and young man," the blue-eyed man grinned at the woman who felt like her insides were turning into mush.
