No Love Greater

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

Charles looked around for Selena after the celebrations at the circuit were over with the hope of them hanging out together and eventually attending the after party as a pair, after all he was single now and had won the Driver's championship so this was the perfect time. He knocked on her door thrice and was worried she didn't open. He quickly called Mattia to find out if she was with him but got a negative response and immediately went to the hotel's reception.

"Excuse me please is Ms. Reiss still in her room", he asked the receptionist.

"Let me confirm from the system, give me a minute", she responded to him.

"She checked out an hour ago and left to the airport", she added.

"Oh", he replied shocked.

"Thank you anyway", he said and went to his room

He sat down muttering a few curse words showing his frustration from his recent discovery. Selena had left the team after the race when she was supposed to be celebrating but he couldn't blame her, she had been alienated from the rest of the team when she joined them except Mattia and Mauro whom she frequently communicated with but he had developed feelings for her gradually. Charlotte ended their relationship because it was obvious his feelings for her had diminished and his behavior at the Alexander McQueen show was the last straw.

The knock on his room door brought him back to reality as he got up to open it. His team principal Mattia walked in while he closed the door.

It was glaring he was upset and a good part of him wanted to be left alone but he knew it was impossible. He won the race of the last season and needed to be at the after party and had no excuse.

"She left", he said to Mattia.

"I figured", Mattia replied to a sober Charles.

"I wish things kicked off differently between us, the restrictions placed on her by the Board hampered our relationship, I'm certain if it was never in place things would have been much better than they are now, it's going to be hard convincing her I feel some kind of way about her, I feel terrible", Charles said placing his head in his hands.

"We would both go to her house in London before the FIA awards happening upper week, but for tonight, you need to relax and try to have fun because the paps will be everywhere", Mattia said standing up.

"Get ready Charles", he added as he went to the door.

"Wait a minute, what if they ask about her? What are we going to say?" Charles asked concerned causing Mattia to stop in his tracks.

"I'll figure out something before then and communicate to you", he responded and left the room subsequently.

Lewis and his Mercedes teammates arrived at the after party with a lack luster mood and had planned to make it a short one because of their loss however, he hoped Selena would attend so he could get a chance to talk to her. But when he spotted the Ferrari team arrive it was obvious she wasn't among them and this was because Charles wore an obvious frown on his face with Mattia occasionally talking to him.

Lewis knew he was right about Charles' feelings for Selena because he couldn't even hide his annoyance. For the best part of the night he looked like he was forced to attend the gathering.

LEWIS POV

Angela came over to meet me after she was in serious talks with Toto for over thirty minutes and I wondered what they had been talking about. I placed the glass of champagne I was drinking on the table in front of me and gently rubbed the back of my neck.
