I had gone back to meet my grandparents where they were waiting for me along with Kayla and her family. Delivering the good news I had just received made everyone glad and at that moment I knew things will fall into place.
My grandparents were ecstatic and believed I will do well in my new career. They only felt sad because they knew my mother would have enjoyed that day and would have loved to be present. We were all teary eyed but knew there was nothing we could do than forge ahead with life.
Everyone's flight eventually took off the next day between 10am and noon leaving me walking back to the hostel alone. I took my last backpack and headed to the concierge lounge in the hostel to drop the room keys and sign out. I walked briefly to the Knightbridge underground station and boarded a train to North Greenwich. The apartment was a five-minute walk from the station.
The weekend went by quickly and it was less than a day till I go to the Mercedes headquarters in Brackley. I had not even fully settled into my new apartment and there were already plans in motion which would make me not stay in it for long periods. The lease was already paid upfront for the next three months but there was a clause in the contract which stated that I could get a refund if I plan to leave before one month into residing in it.
"Mmmmm......what will I wear tomorrow?", I said to myself. I knew I was pretty but I didn't want to create an all too feminine first appearance since I was going to be around a lot of men most of the time. Although most of the team were currently in Monaco preparing for the Grand prix, a lot of their back end staff who usually do not travel with the team were around. I decided to opt for my dark blue skinny levis jeans, a white fitted tee and white converses. It would create a smart appearance coupled with the fact that I knew I was not going to disappoint at the job. I casually placed them out on the sofa in my living room area and neatly arranged every other item I had not unpacked.
The only bottle of wine I had with me, one I bought from the Tesco supermarket two blocks away was alone on the small dining. I opened it and brought out my glass cup and took a sip while walking to the balcony. The sun was already beginning to set as I sat down on the resin chair which came with the apartment lease.
*cheers to the beginning of a new life", I said to myself as the glass cup clinked with the metal balcony railings. I was going to do and be part of what I loved doing the most.
The thoughts of every possible outcome of my first meeting consumed my mind before my phone rang.
"Yes bestie, how are you doing", I said rolling my eyes. "it's not even twenty-four hours since we last spoke and you are already calling again".
She laughed, "I'm trying to gass you up mate", "you need to be in high spirits before tomorrow". "It has a way of making people less anxious". I laughed, she was right. We talked for another twenty minutes before we said our goodbyes and I got ready for bed.
The alarm clock had been set for 7am the next day which would give me ample time to get ready for the pick-up.
It was 6:50am and I was already set waiting for a phone call. I decided to also go with my dark blue Calvin Klein tote bag I bought on sale in Selfridges and very light make up. My identification documents, wallet and every other item I needed was already put in.
*brrrrrrrrring*.....my phone rang and I picked.
'My name is Mr. Stone, am I on to Miss Cuenca?", "I was sent to pick you up and take you to Mercedes headquarters in Brackley by Mr. Mills", he said.
"Yes I am", I replied excited to him.
"I will be at the front of your building in five minutes". "Will you be ready by then?", he asked.
