Winter was almost done and Selena was waiting at the private lounge at the airport for her flight to Bahrain for the pre-season testing. Most of the Ferrari team had arrived with the exception of herself and Charles due to arrive later today for their preparations to fully commence.
She arrived at the airport with two members of the Ferrari team waiting for her as their management anticipated her encounter with the press might worry her.
"Selena", Riccardo one of the race engineers called out as he walked towards where she was stood going through her phone.
"Hello Riccardo", she replied as she spotted him walking towards her along with Jim.
"How are you doing?", he asked as Jim assisted her with the extra luggage.
"I'm good", she responded.
"There's already a massive crowd gathered outside as the press was tipped about your arrival from someone who had access to the flight manifest so we will assist you with getting to the car", Riccardo explained and she immediately felt nervous.
"Try not to worry too much about it since we are around, Jim will walk ahead of you while I am behind you okay", he said and she nodded in response.
A supposed five-minute walk turned into a fifteen-minute walk as the trio found it difficult to access the vehicle parked at the airport entrance because the paparazzi wanted to capture their best shots. At one point she felt she was going to pass out but suddenly felt relieved as Riccardo put his left arm behind her and supported her while using his other arm to get people out of the way. They eventually reached the vehicle and Selena was able to breathe properly again with Riccardo and Jim equally gassed out as the driver drove off.
"I didn't know it was going to be like this", Riccardo said while Selena still remained petrified. She had been away from the public scene and this was her first appearance especially as she was lucky to avoid being seen in Heathrow.
"They are unbelievable", she finally spoke with Jim handing her a bottle of water but then her phone started to ring and it was Lewis.
"Sel how are you feeling now?", a worried Lewis asked her over the phone.
"I've been better, we have left the airport anyway and are on the way to the team hotel", she replied him.
"Thank God", I saw a bit of what happened on live television and had to call you to see if you got into the vehicle safely", he added.
"I should have listened to you", she responded but he quickly cut her off.
"Don't worry about that it's in the past, thank God you didn't have to do it alone and Ferrari sent Riccardo and Jim, let's be grateful for that okay", he explained to Selena.
"Yes Lewis, we would arrive in about ten minutes and Mattia just updated Riccardo that the hotel has set up security at their entrance so we won't have to go through anything like that again", she replied calming him down.
