withdrawal is defined as the combination of physical and mental effects that a person experiences after they stop using or reduce their intake of a substance such as alcohol and prescription or recreational drugs.

ophelia had felt withdrawal, but not with alcohol or with drugs, but with regulus black. she didn't realize how important he had become to her, she only did when he wasn't there anymore.

she didn't have someone to look at during class, someone to eye-roll with whenever someone says something stupid, someone to walk with her, and someone to listen to her. she stopped talking to sirius, thus james, remus, peter and even lily stopped talking to her. evan stopped talking to her but venus still talked to her. but only when they are in the dorms.

at first she wanted to give regulus space, wait for him to cool off and then they could talk. but days turned into weeks then march passed, then april, then may, and now it was june. the school year was about to end and all her relationships were crap.

it was just the end of the year feast and ophelia was done being patient. she grabbed regulus' arm, ignoring his protests, and led him outside of the great hall.

"what the hell, pan!" he said as they were far away enough for ophelia to let go of him. a small part of her heart fluttered as he still said his nickname to her.

ophelia let out a deep breath, knowing she'd say a lot. "remember the night i asked you to go to james' party with me? yeah, so, i wasn't planning on saying that. i was planning on telling you about this dream i had that night—"

"merlin's beard, pan, do you think i care?" his words hurt more than she cared to admit.

she shook his words off and continued, "so it was that day in fourth year when sirius asked me out. he did it after the welcoming feast but i didn't say yes, at first. i asked him to give me time and everything that happened in real life happened in my dream. the only difference was, the very next day, you asked me out too. and, i swear, i said yes. i said yes with no hesitation. i'm sure i would have done the same if you asked me before i fell for sirius. i just wanted to tell you that."

regulus remained still as she walked away, uttering no more words to him. instead of admitting his shock or any other emotion, he scoffed and folded his arms on top of his chest. "that is your explanation? you apology? just because i love you doesn't mean i'm just gonna be okay with you doing whatever with my brother, you know."

she doesn't turn around and only stops on her tracks. "nothing, nothing happened between me and padfoot that night, art. at least not in the way that you think. he kissed me, i kissed him back for a second but it was a second, art. i pulled apart because i saw you. i hope you realize that he acted that way because i chose you. that i'm choosing to find the girl who would say yes without hesitation."
