ophelia black had no idea what she was doing. she told herself not to get involved with this war. this war was no longer her's to bare. yet here she was, running through hogwarts with adrenaline in her veins.
she killed two death eaters below and narrowly missed a curse coming from a very estranged (no pun intended) bellatrix lestrange.
"lia?"
the former death eater turned around and found herself smiling at the sight of her friend. remus john lupin was always going to be her friend. "remus," she said, gasping before wrapping her arms around him.
this wasn't the ideal spot for a reunion yet the two of them still pulled it off as they wrapped their arms around each other while the beautiful colors of curses became their background.
when the broke apart, both parties said, simultaneously, "i'm so sorry."
"hi," a voice said behind remus and ophelia turned, smiling at the girl. "you're my aunt-in-law, i think."
"damn, rem, my niece-in-law, really?" ophelia teased as remus turned into a tomato.
then their nice memory was broken off when the woman spotted her daughter below, fending off death eaters alongside two weasleys (which one they were, ophelia couldn't really decipher. she could never tell who was who with that family).
she excused herself and ran back down, killing another death eater as hope spotted her.
"mom?" she said with too much enthusiasm for a girl greeting the woman that abandoned her.
i never deserved you, hope. i was never going to be a good mother after what i did to the potters, people that treated me like family. but i am not so broken that i cannot pull myself together into some semblance of a mother for her.
so much to say but ophelia didn't know how. "yes, well, it seemed time to bring out the old wand and kill those i used to be friends with. again."
hope tried to fight of a smile. she lost.
"oh, look at that, physical affection," ophelia muttered as hope wrapped her arms around her mother's waist. rather reluctantly and awkwardly, ophelia wrapped her arms around her daughter as well.
when they broke apart, a boy—no younger than hope—looked at ophelia as though he were a dog with his tail in between his legs. "mrs greengrass—er, uh, mrs black, i—uhm, hello—"
"—hello," ophelia said, nodding at the clearly nervous boy.
this didn't help calm his nerves as he looked at hope for help.
ophelia guessed this was how their conversation (through their eyes) went; 'stop freaking out, this is my mom!' 'exactly, it is your mom, what am i supposed to say?' 'well, start with hello maybe, like a normal person!'
