it was three hours passed midnight when ophelia's eyes opened. this wasn't unusual, not in the slightest, but why was she not screaming? why was there no sweat? why was there no drowning? why, instead of fear, was a sense of peace looming over her?
then the answer came as she felt her pillow shift and the weight on her back grew. she realized this was not a pillow, no, it was the chest of a snoring slytherin boy, his hands wrapped around her.
regulus black was pretty, she knew that, but merlin's balls the boy was perfect. the faint light of the moon reflecting on his face, the small smile on his face as quiet snores exhaled. ophelia didn't even know he had dimples until now.
she wanted to stay in his arms, in the little bubble they had. but her legs seemed to have a mind of its own as she slowly pulled away from him, grabbing evan's feet pillow and giving it to regulus, who snuggled it closer — thinking it was her.
ophelia's feet seemed to think it was time for a walk as she exits the common room and begins walking towards the kitchen. turns out, her feet and stomach were walking together.
after about an hour of arguing with her organs, ophelia was about to turn around and head back into her common room when she heard the hufflepuff common room open. there it revealed a disheveled looking sirius black.
"hey," she said awkwardly as he turned around, stunned to find ophelia out there.
"hey?" sirius said as he walked towards her, the two of them then walking anywhere. "what are you doing up?"
she shrugged. "i got hungry."
sirius didn't even speak as he grabbed her hand and lead her to the kitchens. the two of them sat on the small table set as they waited for one of the house elf to bring them some food. and unlike the feeling of peace the loomed over her and regulus, it was awkwardness and tension that filler their air.
deciding that since there was already tension in the air, it wouldn't hurt to add more fuel to the fire (an idiotic mindset), ophelia spoke up, "i really wish we kept our promise. of staying friends."
"we didn't keep a lot of promises, did we?" he said, and ophelia had to admit it stung. but she knew it was true. all of those nights, whispering to each other the future they wanted for each other was all for nothing. "but what did you expect, lia? what did us being friends entail? you and i eat biscuits and drink tea in the room of requirement like you, moony and evans? or watch quidditch games together like prongs? or have 'who can eat more' competitions like wormtail? we were never meant to be just friends, lia."
ophelia looks into his eyes, the eyes that used to make her melt and make her knees fall. "do you still get them? the butterflies? whenever we see each other in the hall and our eyes catch each other, do you get shivers down you spine like you used to?"
