in the end, no matter how much they prolonged it, it was the inevitable. it was the darkness that lurked when they were most happy. it was the slight change in atmosphere when the door opens. it was the tossing and turning at night. it was the fear that grew as they grew.

it was fear itself, possibly.

death could come for her door this very second and ophelia greengrass wouldn't mind. she wouldn't mind if she dropped dead right now simply because she was the eldest daughter of her father. she stared at her reflection in the mirror, slightly raising her chin.

the dress hugged her waist the same way fear was. her hair was neatly placed behind her ears. and she was shaking uncontrollably. uncontrollably yet subtle, words that perfectly described ophelia greengrass.

the remaining of the school year, ophelia had lived to the fullest. she went to more parties, made new friends, wasn't afraid to be herself anymore. and she had regulus black by her side through it all. yet when summer came, it did not matter at all.

whether or not ophelia has reached her pique of happiness, it did not matter to the dark lord as he demanded she, regulus, evan and venus must be branded.

oh, how she wept when the news came.

the four friends were exiting the train when mr and mrs greengrass told them. they were the only parents that cared about their child, thus they felt obligated to care about their child's neglected friends as well.

that was two days ago.

it has been two days into the summer and ophelia already knows that her life would never be the same again. that her friends would never be the same again.

she hasn't seen any of them since that day. ophelia knows, however, that they are all in the same house. bellatrix and rodolphus lestrange offered their house to the dark lord. regulus could be in the room beside her but ophelia made no move to communicate.

ophelia didn't even try to run out the door whenever a house elf would enter her room to deliver food. she was frozen, forever lying in her bed waiting for the moment that would ruin her.

"evan and venus are done," mrs greengrass said as she entered the room. the older woman remained passive and emotionless, but ophelia knows that she would do anything to hug her right now.

her heart dropped. they were branded. they were death eaters.

"regulus is in the process," emotionless ophelia washed away as she turned around, whipping towards her mother's direction in a fast manner causing the woman to take a step back. "don't, ophelia, don't do whatever you are thinking."
