Excitement filled every inch of Sirius' body as he boarded the Hogwarts train. As he was running late after another argument with his parents, the train was already rammed and it was hard to find a compartment to sit in. After walking through the carriages, Sirius found a compartment with a young girl sitting alone with her head stuck in a book. "I'm going to sit here, if that's okay?" Sirius said to her. "Knock yourself out." The girl replied, not looking up from her copy of "The Standard Book Of Spells, Grade One" All that Sirius could see was the girl's long dark chestnut brown hair that hung in ringlets on her shoulders. "I'm Sirius, Sirius Black." He introduced himself while messing with his sleeves on his jumper. "Evangeline." She stated back, still concentrated on her book. Sirius smiled to himself, this girl was impossible. "Do you have a last name? Or is your name like a singular stage name kinda thing that Muggle famous people have?" Sirius asked. Evangeline sighed. "Do you ever stop talking to people when they're trying to read a book?" She answered. Sirius could hear a slight twang of sarcasm in her voice. "I do apologise madam. Just trying to make friends." He chuckled. "Thompson. My surname is Thompson." She informed him. Sirius smiled. He stuck out his hand towards her. "Pleasure to meet you, Evangeline Thompson, the bookworm with no face." He grinned. She laughed, it was musical and very joyful, it made Sirius like her even more. She put her book down to shake his hand. "It's my pleasure to meet you too, Sirius Black, the pushy chatterbox." She smirked. Sirius' heart skipped a beat. She was absolutely beautiful. Her eyes were a mixture of amber and the lightest of browns. Her smile was sarcastic but welcoming. A slight blush painted her pale cheeks.
"So, how come you're so determined to read that book already?" Sirius wondered. She blushed and looked down at her hands. "I want to be good as other wizards and witches who have magic parents." She replied. "You know, I don't know hardly any spells, all first years are in the same boat." Sirius reassured her. Evangeline smiled appreciably. "What do your parents do?" Sirius questioned her curiously. "My mum, Selina, is a lawyer, my dad, Edward, was a mechanic in his own garage. He died two years ago from brain cancer, he never found out I was a witch." She said sadly. Sirius' stomach dropped, he could not imagine how hard her life had been. He knew that cancer was a long term illness that affected many muggles in different parts of the body. He had to fight the urge to hug her. "I'm sorry to hear that." He sighed. "It's hard without him, but he's always there in spirit. What about your family?" She wondered. Sirius sighed, he knew she would ask, but he was ashamed of them. But he felt the need to be honest as she had been so open to him. "I don't get on with them, except for a few cousins. I'm ashamed of their beliefs. If they knew that I was talking to a muggle-born, I'd be immediately disowned, not that I'm bothered. I'm determined not to be sorted into Slytherin like the rest of them." Sirius admitted. "What are their beliefs? Why do they hate non-magic folk like me so much?" She inquired. Sirius shuffled uncomfortably. "They believe that muggle-borns have dirty blood and aren't real wizards or witches like us "pure-bloods". My cousin who married a muggle is called a blood-traitor as she's disgraced the pure-blood tradition. I'm ashamed." He told her. "I'm sorry you had to live with that." She smiled. He nodded, he was falling in love with her kindness. They carried on talking about the wizardry and muggle world, explaining various things, like the ministry and the difference in education.
