It had been a month since Evangeline and Sirius started at Hogwarts. They were loving it. Sirius became a prankster with James and he never failed to make Evangeline laugh. Evangeline spent some time in the library speaking to Lily about her memories with her father and her little sister Amelia who was now 8 years old. Lily introduced Evangeline to Severus Snape, or Sev as she called him, he seemed very shy but you could tell that he was in love with Lily. Unfortunately, his enemies happened to be Sirius and James, causing Lily to have a hatred towards them. "I don't know what you see in Sirius, I know he's your best friend, but he's so horrible to Sev and he's constantly getting into trouble." Lily said to her one morning as they walked to Charms. "He's really not bad, he's kind, and sweet, you know, he makes me laugh." She retorted. Lily gave her a hard look. "What's that suspicious look for?" Evangeline asked, feeling paranoid. "You like him! You like Sirius Black! It's written all over your face!" She gasped. Evangeline laughed it off. "Don't be ridiculous! He's just a really good friend, just like Remus and James." She insisted. Lily smirked and rolled her eyes. "Whatever you say." She grinned. Evangeline sighed and shook her head.
Charms was Evangeline's favourite subject. Sirius enjoyed just as much as he was always paired up with her. "Bare with me a sec Sirius, just going to give in my assignment before I forget." She informed him before approaching the professor. She was such a swot, but that was one of the qualities he loved about her. He gazed at her dreamlike before he felt his collar catch fire and James laughing behind him. "That was for no concentrating mate." James chuckled after putting it out. Sirius punched him on the arm and shook his head. James was exactly the same with Lily Evans, except that she despised him as she was best friends with Snivellus Snape. When Evangeline returned, she had a huge smile on her face. "It got really good marks. I'm so relieved!" She cheered before practising the fire-making spell herself. She looked over to Sirius and noticed his collar. "Um, why is your collar all burnt?" She questioned. Sirius blushed. "Just James messing around... no real reason..." He replied quietly. Evangeline turned around to see James smirking. She laughed and rolled her eyes. Once the lesson ended, the professor asked for Sirius and Lily had already started walking to Ancient Runes so Evangeline had to walk alone to Herbology.
She stepped outside the classroom to see Evan Rosier and Avery messing around in the corridor, they were Slytherins who Sirius warned her to stay away from. She had no choice. They were blocking the direction she wanted to go. She walked towards them whilst looking down at her feet, clutching her books tightly in her arms. They noticed straight away and stopped her in her tracks, laughing as they did so. "Please let me through." She begged. They laughed again. Rosier stepped forward and pushed her over so she hit her head on the paved floor and her books went everywhere. "Only pure-bloods are allowed through." He spitted. Evangeline tried to get up but a charm kept her down. They levitate her books in the air and laughed as she jumped up to get them. "Look at the pathetic, filthy mudblood trying to get her books!" Avery taunted. Rosier pushed her over again, making her cry as a graze had appeared on her knee where a rip had appeared in tights. "Ew! Your blood is that dirty, it's practically brown! Mummy and daddy can't save you now! Or your other mudblood friends! You have no one!" He told her harshly.
"Leave her alone." Sirius shouted angrily. Avery and Rosier looked up at him and laughed. The books all landed on her head, making her cry out in pain. "Look mudblood, your blood-traitor boyfriend is here to save the day! Run along now Black, this is none of your business." Rosier said smirking. Sirius' face reflected pure anger. "Fine I'll make it my business, I will not have you talk to her or treat her like vermin, do you understand?" He demanded. Avery and Rosier chuckled and rolled their eyes. Rosier took out his wand again and pointed it at Sirius. "Rictusempra!" He shouted. Sirius fell over in uncontrollable laughter before getting up again. "Impedimenta!" He screamed back. Rosier rose up in the air and knocked into a pillar in pain. "EXPELLIARMUS!!" Avery yelled angrily. This time Sirius knocked it back by shouting "PROTEGO!" which resulted in Avery flying in the air and hitting his head. "Petrificus Totalus." Sirius added to both causing them to freeze like ice. He had temporarily paralysed them. Sirius walked over to them smugly. "I win. Don't hurt her again." He insisted before helping Evangeline up and running off with her.
"Are you alright?" He asked her seriously, cleaning up her wounds with a spell he learnt. She nodded, her tears still streaming down her cheeks. "Thank you for protecting me. I was so scared Sirius." She admitted. He shrugged his shoulders as to say it's-nothing- really. She shook her head and pulled him in for a tight hug, taking him back in shock. Surprisingly, he found himself wrapping his arms around her in return. Smiling to himself as he did so. He really was in love with her.
