it was time for the opening ceremonies and jihyun was in what looked like stables with the tributes from each district next to their chariots that would be pulled by horses. this was the first time she had seen the other tributes and she felt slightly intimidated but refused to show it. she hoped they'd see her as strong and fear her instead. her clothes would help boost this.

jungwoo had styled her in a navy blue dress that stopped at her thighs. the upper part of the dress had black laces threaded through the middle and were wrapped around her shoulders and arms. her dress was paired with black thigh-high boots that also had laces threaded through them. then finally, the finishing touches were her hair and face. her hair was let down on her back in beautiful brown curls and on top of her head was a silver crown. jungwoo had given her minimal makeup, claiming that her natural beauty was enough to wow people.

there was a sudden roar from the doors ahead of her as they were opened and district one's chariot left past them. jungwoo quickly ran over to the district five chariot, a remote in his hand.

"what's that?" jihyun asked, an eyebrow raised.

"what i call my masterpiece." he smirked. "watch this."

he pressed on a button and what happened next was not at all what jihyun had expected. both her and wren's clothes — specifically where the black laces were — had electricity crackling all over them. their crowns also had balls of electricity on them. they looked amazing and they captured what their district stood for well.

"jungwoo, you're an absolute genius," jihyun complimented. "but isn't this dangerous?"

she loved the stylist's idea, however, she was a bit scared. she didn't want to move in fear that she'd get electrocuted and die before the games even began.

"not at all!" he shook his hands at her, then lowered his voice. "...i think."

"you think? jungwoo—" jihyun was cut off as the chariot suddenly jerked forwards and took off past the doors, towards the city centre.

she was momentarily blinded by the flashing lights but smiled through it. she waved at the roaring crowds, her raised arm showing off the electricity. they threw flowers and compliments her way and she blew kisses back at them which made them go even crazier.

jihyun felt sick. on the outside she looked like she was having the time of her life, adoring the people of the capitol. but in reality, she wished she could shoot electricity at them and electrocute every single person there. she hated the way they gawked at her like some prized possession.

once all the chariots reached the city centre, the electricity disappeared and jihyun felt a lot more relaxed. she dropped her hands to her sides, staring up at the president, president snow, who called for silence.

"welcome! welcome. tributes, we welcome you. we salute your courage and your sacrifice..."

at his words, jihyun scrunched her nose, turning away. she glanced to her left, her eyes meeting soft brown ones. she examined the person's face, taking in his disgusted look and caught on that he felt the same way as her and had also turned away from president snow, only to make awkward eye contact with her.

he averted his eyes and faced forwards again so that she could only stare at the side of his face. the boy was undoubtedly breathtaking and the fire on his capes that illuminated a glow on his face added to his ethereal appearance.

beautiful...

she knew him and she didn't want to kill him in the arena, but most likely he'd end up dead considering his district.
