due to the decision for a hunger games with the capitol's children not going through, the execution of snow's accomplices started. all of the executions were going to be in groups and in public for people to watch but there were so many that it was unlikely people would want to go to all.

jihyun was sure she didn't want to witness it up close like some of the other victors who were standing by the podium. instead, the eight friends were on a balcony in the mansion, watching from above.

"this is sick, don't you think?" jeno asked. "i know these people hurt us but... it's too much death. a life sentence locked up would be just fine."

"we can't live like this. things have to change." mark said.

"i don't know how..." renjun trailed off as he reached down to apply pressure on his leg. "i'll be right back."

jihyun eyed the balcony doorway he disappeared past. he returned a few minutes later when there was a scream from the crowd. it was a child, a small boy, maybe five or six.

they watched as he tried to break free from his mothers grip, screaming and wailing for his father. it didn't take long for everyone to realise his father was one of the people being executed.

"no..." jeno whispered.

jihyun's hands tightened on the railing in front of her as the executioners raised arrows towards the group of people tied up. when they fired, she flinched and looked away, the child's screams ringing in her ears.

with bile rising in her throat, she rushed inside and to the nearest bathroom. she fell to the floor in front of the toilet, throwing up her breakfast that morning.

a hand moved her hair away from her face, bunching it up into a ponytail while another rubbed circles on her back. tears rolled down her cheeks as she kept gagging even when her stomach was empty.

"you're okay." haechan whispered.

"it h-hurts. everything hurts." she cried. "i don't want to be here. i just want things to be normal again."

"it will be one day."

"will it? will really?" she asked, looking at him over her shoulder.

"we can only hope so, ji." he replied, tugging on her arms. "come on, let's get you cleaned up."

she stood in front of the sink and washed her face and mouth, hiding any signs of having vomited while haechan cleaned the toilet. when he was done he joined her by the sink to wash his hands.

"does your stomach feel better?" he asked. she shook her head and he rubbed her belly. "aw you poor thing."

"are you making fun of me?" she scowled.

"no, i would never." he replied but she thought he was mocking her and he could tell. "hey, i'm being serious. i would never make fun of you for something like this. i came to help you, didn't i? i may tease you a lot, but not over this."

"yeah..."

"come on." he held her hand, leading her out the bathroom.

"where did the others go?"

"they all left. they couldn't continue watching the executions. it was horrible. some of those people may deserve it but..."

"their families... it's the same as the hunger games when our families saw us at the reaping being sent to our deaths." jihyun said as they walked down the stairs. "i can't believe coin is doing this."

"someone has to stop her. i fear another rebellion could be started by the people of the capitol." haechan said. "both her options were bad. the hunger games would have the same outcome."
