jihyun's eyes flew open as she sat up, gasping for air. she felt like she had been drowning and was horrified at the thought that everything was a dream and she was still locked in the presidential palace basement. but as she glanced around at the room she was in, she remembered that she was in the hospital — still in the presidential palace but safe.

yet she didn't feel safe. she felt claustrophobic, like the walls were closing in on her and squeezing her lungs to the point that she couldn't breathe. she swung her legs over the side of the bed and tugged on the drips and wires connected to her. she ignored the severe aches on her body and the blood that pooled from her arm.

immediately, alarms began ringing around jihyun and her heart nearly jumped out of her chest. she bolted for the door, throwing it open but her head hit a chest instead. arms wrapped around her, restraining her from running away and she began to yell and flail her arms, trying to hit the person.

"jihyun! jihyun calm down!" the familiar voice nearly passed straight through her ears but then she glanced up and saw that it was doyoug.

"doyoung?" she whispered, her vision becoming blurry.

"yes, it's me. you're safe now." he said and she tightly wrapped her arms around him, sobbing into his chest.

"doyoung, i was so scared."

"you don't have to be anymore. it's all over now. you're safe. we all are." he told her, rubbing the back of her head comfortingly.

"i don't want to be here. i-i want to go home." she sobbed and her older cousin didn't know what to say as his heart broke. district five was gone and could no longer be considered a home anymore. it was obvious that they would all be spending time in the capitol from now on.

"ji, you're bleeding." he gasped, feeling the stickiness on her arm when he grabbed it to hold her back and see her face. he peered over at the bed to see that she had ripped the iv drips out her arms. "shit."

behind him there were footsteps echoing in the hallways as two nurses rushed over. they urged jihyun back to the bed to treat her and hook her back onto the drips and wires which she didn't want but doyoung stayed by her side to let her know everything would be fine.

"where are the others?"

"they're all in their own rooms being treated or asleep. last i checked up on renjun he was in surgery for his leg. jaemin is in the worst condition right now. he hasn't woken up since yesterday."

"i need to see them." she said, sitting up again only to be pushed back lightly.

"please just rest for a bit longer. they need rest too. you can see them later."

"can i at least see hana and my siblings? please, it's been too long."

"we were just waiting for you to ask." hana's voice could be heard as she pushed open the door and stepped in, iseul and miyoung following behind her. tears quickly began to spill from jihyun's eyes and hana ran over, embracing her.

"my baby." she whispered, kissing her forehead. "i'm so glad you're okay."

"i'm not okay." jihyun replied. "i'm not at all."

hana glanced at doyoung with a knowing look. she couldn't say anything back to the younger and only hold her until iseul and miyoung wanted their turn.

"you're so cool, jihyun. you did it. you completed the mission. snow is gone and everyone is safe again." iseul told her, running her hands through her black hair, the black hair that no one was used to yet.

but jihyun still didn't feel safe. there was still evil in panem and it came in the form of president coin.
