Chapter 10

Caterina

I didn't even realise I fell asleep until I heard someone waking me up "Caterina" I heard Luca calling "Are we there?" I asked as I rubbed my eyes a little to wake up and saw that the car was parked somewhere.

"Not yet, realised we could get some food in us before we head there" he replied as he turned off the car and stepped out. Before I could get out he opened my door "Thank you" I got out and adjusted my dress I was wearing and realised that I was still wearing the dress from dinner and it was clearly all crumpled up.

"Here" he held a black hoodie for me and honestly I thought he wouldn't notice but "Thanks" I took it and quickly pulled it over my head and it looked less like I ran away from my rich, rich boyfriend who broke up with me the night before.

We stepped in what looked like a small diner and a waitress led us to a table as she clearly eyed Luca way more time than necessary. As we sat down she poured us glasses of water and ignored my very existence at the table as she tried to talk to Luca "What can I get you?" she asked with a flirty tone and I scoffed.

Luca eyed me with a smirk "I'll get the big breakfast with black coffee no sugar" he said then looked at me but the waitress leaned over the table "Is there anything else I can get you" she asked softly to which I cleared my throat and finally she realises I'm there.

"If you're done flirting with my fiancé, I'll get pancakes and some orange juice" I said and saw a hint of amusement in Luca's eyes as he looked at me. "Sure" the waitress said as she gathered up the menu "I don't see a ring" she muttered under her breath but I heard it and before I could say anything I felt Luca reach for my hand.

"It's okay baby, I'm all yours don't stress" he said and that made the waitress scoff and walks away. What in the world was that "Well someone's already jealous" Luca said with a smirk as he pulled his hands away and I missed his warmth. "N-No of course not, I'm just saving your ass from miserable women" I stuttered like an idiot and he chuckled "Oh now you're saving me are you krasivaya".

"You still haven't told me what that means- you know what I'm just going to google it" I reached my pocket for my phone and realised that my phone was not there. "Here" he held my phone in his hands and I looked at him suspiciously.

"It was ringing I thought it was yours so I took it out from your bag but realised in the end it was from my phone" he said to which I nodded and took the phone. The first thing I did was check my call logs to see if Valentina called which she didn't but then I knew if she were to call it will be from our secret phone.

I wanted to ask if he has my other phone but that would lead to questions to why I even have another phone so I didn't and just googled the word but clearly got the spelling wrong so I scrunched my nose.

Luca chuckled "krasivaya means beautiful" he said making me stare at him for a moment "And why would you call me that" he smiled "Because you are krasivaya" he said and I saw another waitress place our food on the table. I eyed him suspiciously before I started eating and my oh my was that a delicious stake of pancakes.

I slowly eyed his bowl of fruits and I thought I was doing it secretly but I realised not when I saw Luca push the bowl towards me "Go ahead" he said to which I happily took a piece of watermelon and plopped it in my mouth.

As soon as we finished our food Luca paid and we walked out and just as we were about to get into the car I felt a glare at my eyes and tried to rub it away thinking it was dust but no I realised it was a red light from somewhere, must be a reflection from somewhere.

Before I knew it I was slammed against the car and all the air whooshed out of my lungs "Sniper, stay down" I heard Luca's voice near my ears as he pushed me into the car and pushed my head down from the window. I heard him slam in the driver seat and before I knew it he smashed on the accelerator and we flew through the road.

I was breathing so hard I didn't even know I was doing it until "Breathe Caterina" I heard his voice but it was so faint then I felt something on my leg and realised it was Luca's hand "Breathe, in and out" he said and did the breathing exercise himself which made me follow him and all I could do was stare at the side of his face while he drove.

He kept looking at the mirror to see if anyone was following us "That's it, again in and out" he said one more time and I got my breathing back to normal "Thank you" I said and I saw that we were pulling up to a gas station.

Luca stopped the car and surveyed the area then snapped his eyes at me which made me flinch a little. He reached and grabbed my necklace looking at it "Take it off" he said in a cold tone making me shake a little as I pulled the necklace over my head. "And your phone" he said as he took my necklace and I reached in my pocket passing him the phone.

"Do you know any other tracker on you" he asked this time in a softer tone making me squint at him "Uh-h that's the only ones I know" I stuttered and he just nodded as he got out of the car going off somewhere.

It took him about 10 or 15 minutes to get back and he came back without my phone or necklace making me anxious "Papa told me to never take it off" I said as soon as he got in, he just nodded.

"Whoever that sniper was, I'm guessing tracked you with that" he said making me look at him "They were aiming for me weren't they" I asked and saw his eyes turn cold again then he blinked them away "We still don't know" and then started the car.

We drove for another 3 hours in which I may have taken a nap or two to find us pulling up towards a house which was hidden in the woods. I didn't realise how deep we were in the woods up till now, we were in the middle of nowhere.

"This isn't where Tina and I came before" I said as I took in the small little cottage house that was hidden with bushes and trees. "This is one of my places, it's safer for us to stay here" he said as he gattered my bag from the back seat while I stepped out looking at the view in front of me.

He led me in and I was still in awe looking around the whole area "There's only two rooms, you can take your pick and the bathroom is on the other end" he said pointing out the directions for me and I nodded.

"Thank you" I said again which I'm sure will be never enough for this man. He saved me and is keeping me safe here when he had no such responsibility to do so. I turned towards my bag looking for my other phone just to see if Tina called me but it wasn't there-

"I'll go get some necessities for us, do not go out, just stay in" I heard Luca said from behind me making me freeze he is leaving me alone here? I think he saw the fear in my face as I turned around and I saw his eyes soften just for a fraction second "Don't worry, this place is safe, I'll be quick" he said and it kind of lessen my fear.

"Here" he stepped forward giving me a phone to which I looked at him confused "If you need to call me, you can use this" he pushed it towards my palms. "Only Dmitri calls me on that, nobody else knows the number" he continued "Oh and the contact under LC is my phone" he waved another phone in his hands.

"I'll be quick okay" he said in a more comforting way he is trying to make me feel safe. I smiled "Thank you" I said again and this time he smiled "You got to stop thanking me, you've done that way too many times" to which I chuckled a little and he nodded before stepping out the door.
