I pulled Elijah to follow me, we ended up at a sandwich shop. Elijah seemed to be out of his comfort zone so he got what I got, a Onion Marmalade steak sandwich and steak fries.
I took him to eat our sandwiches under the Gateway Arch. Since it was a normal work day, not many people walked the area so Elijah and I were able to enjoy ourselves just fine.
"So you were born in 977? I wonder if had ever seen each other.." I wondered, as i took a large bite of my sandwich. Elijah smiled and shook his head.
"No, I would have remembered you. The first time I saw you was in 1114, in the castle. You were married to Duke George, correct?" I nodded with a grimace. "Was he a bad man?" Elijah asked, noticing my face change.
"No- George was a very kind man. But there were rumors that he was very....intimate with the Maids. That's what I thought I was breaking up when I was murdered." I explained.
"You thought you were stopping him from ravishing another?" Elijah asked, apparently quiet interested in the topic. I nodded, popping a fry into my mouth.
"Who would have guessed that the maid was a vampire feeding from him. One of yours?"
"Oh, no. That would have been either Kol's or Niklaus's. That was the year they went a bit far with turning people. Niklaus saw it as a way to build an army whereas Kol just enjoyed the creating bit." I stared at him, a laugh spreading a smile across my face.
"Wow. Don't tell me they are still like that." Elijah chuckled, shaking his head.
"Kol has been daggered for quiet some time now and Nik lost his chance of creating an army once Katerina died." My eyebrows scrunched together in confusion.
"What do you mean he lost his chance? I know he had a thing for Katerina, but what did her dying have to do with his army?" Elijah sighed, picking at a fry.
"Our mother placed a curse on Niklaus. See, before we were turned into Vampires, Nik was already a supernatural creature. A werewolf." I raised my eyebrow at him, images of the wolf attacking me flashing in my mind. "She locked his Werewolf side away, something about making him too power hungry. Not that it changed any of that."
"So let me get this straight, Werewolves are real? And you're mother is a bitch?" I laughed, but quickly covered my mouth. "I'm so sorry, that was so inappropriate of me to say.." Elijah shook his head with a smile.
"No, no. You are right. Our mother is a....bitch as you say." I grinned at him.
"So Niklaus is cursed, blah blah, what does this have to do with Katerina?"
"Katerina is a doppleganger. Only a Doppleganger can break the curse. Niklaus was chasing her for the ritual, but once she turned into a vampire it had doomed his chances altogether."
"A doppleganger?" Elijah nodded.
"A look a like so to say. Katerina is the doppleganger of a woman from our time, Tatia." I nodded. Putting pieces together.
"But-Elijah there is another doppleganger...Katerina has a look a like in Mystic Falls.." I told him, my eyes looking to his, seeing his shock build up.
"Another? That's not possible..Katerina had no children." He explained.
"Yes she did. She had a daughter. I was there when she had her." Elijah stared at me, unable to speak apparently. "But I don't know what happened to the child-"
"Niklaus said you had a baby.." Elijah trailed off.
"No. That was Katerina's baby. I never had any children." Elijah let out a laugh causing me to jump a bit.
"You're telling me that Niklaus was that close to a Petrova child and didn't even realize it?" He laughed some more when I nodded. "He really was that distracted by you. When he came back from killing her family, he spoke of you non stop. Kept saying how beautiful you were and how he didn't understand why he has seen you so many times." I smiled at him, thinking about when I had seen Niklaus back then.
"I died shortly after that meeting." I told him. Elijah stopped his laughing and looked at me, confused. "I took Katerina's baby, trying to keep her safe and Nik told me to run away from there. I don't know why, but I did as I was told. I was probably a few miles out when a group of travelers surrounded me." Elijah's jaw clenched as he listened. "Sorry- this is an awful topic to talk about on a date." I said. Elijah shook his head.
"No it's not. it's part of your many lives. Maybe don't tell Niklaus that when you ran off that you died not far from him. He would never forgive himself."
"It's not like it was his fault. I always die on my 17th birthday." Elijah looked at me confused.
"17? Why 17?" I shrugged, not really knowing the answer myself. "You said you are linked to my brothers and I, right?" I nodded, unsure where he was getting at with this. "Henrik..." Elijah whispered, shaking his head. "It's not possible."
"What, Elijah?"
"When you died the first time, you saved a little boy.."
"How did you know that??" My eyebrows scrunching together as I remembered the night.
"I know that, because you saved my little brother. Henrik Mikaelson. He was attacked by a werewolf and Niklaus was there. He told us all how a woman distracted the wolf so he could pull him to safety. When he returned you were dead. You saved my younger brother that night."
"I'm completely lost. I've never been told about a Henrik. And what does this have to do with me dying at 17?" I asked.
"Henrik was 13 when you saved him. He lived until he was 17, died at fire we had going to burn a tree. He got too close. Henrik is the 5th soulmate you had.." Elijah explained.
"Are you saying that I saved your brother only for him to die a few years later and that's why I die at 17?" Elijah shrugged.
"It's possible. Magic does funny things sometimes. But you're alive now and you don't seem like you're 17 anymore."
"I'm not. I'm 22. Sheila Bennett gave me this-" I raised my hand to my neck only to feel nothing. "No..." Pure panic ran through me as I felt around my chest, looking to the ground. The stone no where to be seen.
"Frankie.. What is it? What's wrong?" Elijah asked, moving a bit to look for whatever I was looking for.
"The Scale Stone. It's gone. It has the power of the Ancestors in it...it's what's been keeping me safe-" I explained as I stood up and looked at our surroundings.
"We'll find it." Elijah assured, standing up with me. "Let's get you home and I'll look for it, okay? You'll be safe at your apartment. I'll call Niklaus to come help. He'll be upset I didn't call sooner, but nows a good of a time as any." Elijah grabbed my hand, pulling his phone out with the other. With that we walked back to my apartment where he left me to wait for Nik.
