"What the f—" James shouted.
"Stop it! Both of you!" My body felt weak again and I dropped to the ground. Whatever that was, just took out so much of my energy. I've never felt anything like it before.
"Are you okay?" The little boy stood up and limped over to me.
"Hey! Stay away from her!" James pointed at the boy.
"You stay away from her!" The boy snapped back.
"Both of you stay away from me!" I groaned. "You both are fighting for no good reason, and you won't listen! Both of you are human with strange abilities! We all are! We're all running from the same thing!"
"I saw him kill my mother!" The little boy huffed. "He transformed into a monster and killed my mother!"
"I didn't! What the heck are you talking about?" James hissed. "I barely even know you, or your mother!"
"Shut up you murderer!"
"Come over here and talk like a man, squirt!" James shot back. "You wanna see what a murderer looks like? I'll show you." He balled his fists and voltage sparked in them. "I was just going easy on you, brat."
"Would you both just stop arguing for a second!" I sighed and struggled to stand back up. I'm dealing with idiotic boys and it's driving me insane. "What's your name, kid?"
"Aiden.." He hesitated while eyeing James suspiciously. "Aiden Johnson."
"My name is Riley, and this is James." I gestured towards him, but James still held his intense gaze on the boy. "Where did you come from?"
"I was going to the store with my mother and then there was an earthquake and meteor strike. Then we were attacked by him." He pointed at James. "She told me to run and I saw him kill her. But he transformed first. Then after he killed her, he chased after me, and I hid here overnight." A tear fell down his cheek.
"It wasn't me!" James crossed his arms angrily as if trying to persuade the obvious.
"Liar!"
"Okay, settle down boys." I huffed. "Aiden, do you have any other family members with you? Anyone you can stay with?"
"N-no.." He stammered and looked down. Tear droplets tapped onto the ground as he began to cry. "My Dad lives in Arizona. My mom was taking care of me while I visited. And now..."
"Hey, it's okay." I stroked his shoulders gently. "We'll take care of you, you're safe now."
"We are?" James seethed.
"Yes," I hissed in reply. "We are. We can't just leave him alone. I'm not a heartless dastard like you." The fact that he even wanted to abandon this child on his own made me want to kick him in the groin.
"Are you forgetting that I'm the one with the car? I'm not letting this brat come with us."
"Would you for once let your guard down? Why are you so against helping people? It's not going to hurt!" I groaned. "Let's go, Aiden." I grabbed him by his hand and I felt my hand tingle. My hands started to glow as it healed his wounds.
Aiden was able to stand up completely now, without any limps. But I couldn't say the same for myself. My ability obviously sacrificed my energy to help others. "I'm not sure who you saw attack your mother, but I know it wasn't him." I pointed at James.
"How do you know?"
"We were together all night," I said, but then realized it came out wrong when James frowned at me in surprise.
