"James! Stop it!" I yanked him off and away from one of the soldiers. I wasn't going to excuse their behavior just because they were drunk. They knew that their racist remarks would aggravate James.
But I don't think fighting with a couple of drunkards was going to solve anything. It felt like a waste. If the Lieutenant saw him fighting with them, James would be the one to get in trouble for assaulting service members.
"Out of my way!" He shouted in my face and nudged me around in the opposite direction. The sudden movement caused me to squeak. I had to process that he just grabbed me and spun me away.
"James you can't do this!" I groaned. He swung his arm forward and voltage coursed through his arms. I grabbed one and tugged it down. I was surprised that his ability hadn't pushed me back or shocked me, and he was too. "They're not worth it, okay?"
"I'm not gonna let him stand there and talk smack about me like that—"
"James, I understand that what they said was offensive, but it's not worth getting in trouble for. Let's just go to the cabin, and get Aiden healed. The Lieutenant will find out about them being drunk when they wake up tomorrow."
James continued to glare at the two soldiers, but I snapped my fingers in front of his face catching his attention. "Let's go." I frowned.
His eyes went back to the two drunk men and he sighed before shrugging my arm away. "Fine. Whatever." He turned on his heel and began walking off in the direction of our cabin. Aiden followed after him in a hurry.
I was about to leave, but I saw one of the soldiers pull out a small Glock from his pockets and take aim at James. He was going to shoot him! I raised my arms as he pressed the trigger. "STOP!" I shouted and a loud boom rang through the air.
I felt energy surge through me again, and a shield covered both Aiden and James. The both of them stopped and observed it in surprise.
The bullet came into contact with it and bounced off. I felt the impact of the bullet though.
I brought my arms back in and the shield went away, along with the last bit of energy I had. James jogged over to me and grabbed onto my shoulders before I felt my knees hit the ground.
"What's going on here?!" Lieutenant William's voice came shouting from a distance. The two soldiers scurried to their feet as if nothing happened. "What are you two doing? I told you to stay at your post!" Lieutenant Williams and Tillie jogged over, along with a couple of other soldiers who probably heard the gunshot.
"These 3 attacked us, sir." One of the soldiers pointed at James and slurred. He wasn't able to hide that he was drunk.
"Bullcrap!" Tillie yelled. "YOU'RE the only ones with weapons! James— I mean all 3 of them would never attack you out of the blue!"
"Tillie, let me handle it." Lieutenant Williams nudged her back. "It's past curfew, everyone should head back to their respective cabins and tents. Tomorrow, we're going to discuss the issue." The Lieutenant commanded.
The two soldiers nodded and the rest of us did as we were told.

"Riley." I felt a hard tap on my shoulder. I opened my eyes and noticed that he was sitting up but hovering over me. His face was a lot closer than I would've liked, and I yelped and sat up in a hurry, knocking James away from me. I covered my face with the sheets in embarrassment.
Why in the world was he all up in my face like that? Didn't he know about personal space? "You scared the crap out of me." I placed my hands to my chest and calmed myself down.
