"Crap!" James hissed as he bumped into the dresser. The TV almost fell over but he caught it and steadied it back into position. He placed one of his hands on his forehead and clutched onto it.

"Good morning!" Aiden chirped happily, earning an intense glare from James. Aiden frowned and stuck his head down and munched on eggs from his plate.

"Where did you guys get food?"

"The hotel offers breakfast and dinner," I stated casually. "It would've been nice to know yesterday, but Aiden and I found out after taking a short walk this morning."

"You guys left the hotel?" James strolled over to the couch and sat down. He propped his elbow on the armrest and massaged his temples. As soon as he walked into the room, I smelled alcohol. He had obviously been drinking last night.

"Since you slept in the both of us were bored. We didn't want to just wait around for you." I shrugged and stuffed the rest of my chocolate chip muffin in my mouth.

"What time is it?" James groaned and looked at his phone. When he looked at how late it was, he chucked his phone aside. "Shite!" He shot up from his seat and scurried towards the bathroom.

I didn't understand why he was rushing. A few minutes later, he came out dressed in the clothes from yesterday and his survival bag. He stuffed his phone and dirty clothes inside before gesturing at us. "Hurry up and finish kid, we're late."

"Late?" Aiden and I glanced at each other in surprise. "Where are we supposed to be going?" He was just packing up and leaving without telling us where we were going, and it was quite worrisome.

"Kansas." He answered. "Have you ever wondered why we haven't seen those creatures in 2 days? It's because we were ahead of their schedule. I think I've calculated the times of their attack. The longer distance we travel means the longer we have to rest until they get here." He explained. "Were 3 hours late. It's time for us to get back on the road."

"Hang on," I raised my hand and nudged him back a little. "You calculated based on observation? How far is Kansas from here? How long will it take?"

"11 hours."

"11 hours!?" I gasped. "That's the whole day! Why are you trying to take us so far?"

"This isn't a vacation." James snapped. "This is for survival. I have a family to get to, and I'm sure Aiden wants to get back to his father. It's about time we go our separate ways."

"I get that, but what happens when we do go our separate ways? Won't we be putting our families in danger by leading those creatures to them?"

"I'm going to protect mine." James stated. "And I'm sure Aiden has strong enough abilities to protect his father. Besides, I'm sure that government will start connecting the dots about those aliens. They'll send the military and handle it."

"I don't have the ability to protect my family! It's better for us to stay together and figure out how to get those monsters off the planet!" I whined. "Maybe we were given our abilities to do that. Maybe we have to fight them off instead of running!"

"Then you can stay here." James shoved past me and I almost fell. I caught myself on the wall as he stormed out. Aiden looked at me apologetically before heading out of the hotel room as well. I grabbed my things and rushed after them.

I wasn't wrong about what I said. Personally, I thought running away was a really bad idea. My family didn't live on the mainland of the states, they lived in Hawaii. But who knows if the creatures aren't outside of the country? That's why fighting those things off was a better option.
