James rushed out of the motel room frantically, with his black hair in a mess. All the strands poked out in opposite directions as he combed his fingers through them. He must've just woken up. And from the look on his face, he was wondering where the heck he was.
I laughed at his appearance, his bedhead looked much worse than mine in the mornings. That was a benefit of having curly hair. "Look who's awake, Aiden. Sleeping beauty." I snorted and stuffed a chicken nugget into my mouth. Aiden and I had showered and changed out of our dirty clothes, and I put them to wash in the washing machine in front of our room.
"Where are we? What happened?" James snapped and stomped over to me. He was back to his bad attitude. I guess the silence of rude remarks was fun while it lasted.
"Relax, we're in Virginia. You passed out in the fight so thanks to Aiden and I, we brought you to safety. No matter how much I healed you, you wouldn't wake up. Almost scared me to death."
James glanced over Aiden and me once more and groaned very loudly. "What time is it? How long have we been here!?"
"For a few hours." I glanced at the alarm clock. I was still on edge about the time, but nothing bad has happened within the area yet. No earthquakes or anything. If it did happen, I'm sure it would've arrived at least an hour ago. "Want something to eat?" I raised a chicken nugget to James's lips and he eyes it with irritation.
"Where did you get the money to buy this? Did you change your clothes? When did you get new clothes?" He poked me in the shoulder, hard. I frowned and nudged his hand away.
"With the money in the bag—"
"You didn't." James swore under his breath and rammed his fist on the table, causing Aiden to flinch. "Did it EVER occur to you that you were using MY money?"
"Yep." I pressed my lips together and shrugged. "We needed food and a shower. Don't worry, I didn't take much. There are still hundreds of dollars left." I shoved another nugget into my mouth, and James lowered his head and hovered over me. He was trying to intimidate me.
"That was my money. You had no right to go through my things and spend it on frivolous things!" He hissed. Maybe he didn't realize yet that I bought him food and clothes as well.
"Calm down!" I huffed. "I didn't spend it carelessly! I also got you stuff too! There's clean clothes on the bed, and I got you a—"
"You spent my money and tell me to calm down?" He seethed.
"Oh, just have a chicken nugget." I stood from my seat and offered him the food I bought for him. He hadn't eaten all day either, so I knew he was hungry too.
"I don't eat that crap, and stop changing the subject! You stole my money, bi—"
I shoved a nugget into his mouth while he was talking and he stopped immediately. He slowly started chewing after looking at me in surprise. "And after you're done, you should take a shower." I raised my fingers to my face and scrunched my nose. "You still smell like that creature."
"I should've left you to rot." He spat.
"If you did, you wouldn't be standing here." I shot back. "I'm the one who healed you. You're welcome!" I walked away in frustration. What exactly was his problem? Did his parents raise him that way?
~
"You should get some rest, James." I frowned and walked over to him. It was late at night, and he stood by the window, looking through the blinds. He was waiting for the creatures to come since so much time had passed by.
"I already had rest." He mumbled, not bothering to look my way. "Don't worry about me, go to sleep." He shooed me away. I was still worried about his health condition. If he'd been knocked out cold for so long, he needed to regain as much energy as possible.
