"You heard me. Drop the light!" The voice demanded. Fern quickly let go of the flashlight, letting it fall to the ground. I mean, you would too if your best friend disappeared, your parents disappeared, and some guy you didn't see was pointing a gun in your direction.
"Okay. Now get on the ground."
"What have you done with Sara?" Fern asked once she got on her knees, putting her hands in the air.
"None of your business! But she is alive. For now. Tell us where everyone is, now."
Fern didn't know what to say. "I have absolutely no idea!" Was her reply.
"Quit lying! You're the only people here besides us! You know where they are!"
Us? How many people were there? "Where is Sara?" She asked again.
"Tell me where everyone went, and we'll let her go!" He shouted back at her.
"I told you! I have no idea! We stayed in a cabin overnight, and when we came back they were all gone!"
"I don't believe you. Here's the deal, Meet us at the city square tomorrow, at noon. We will bring your friend, Sara. If you want to see your friend again, Id advise you to tell us where everyone is." Fern heard the door open, then shut again. She waited a few minutes before jumping up and looking out the window. nothing. Fear began building up inside Fern. She picked up the flashlight and ran upstairs into her room. She grabbed her school backpack and dumped out all the stuff. A book, "Nicolas of Erini", Her Diary, and school stuff full out. She ran back downstairs and began filling it with random stuff she might use. I kitchen knife, a lighter, rope, and a glass bottle of habanero hot sauce. It might work as a weapon? Fern knew it hurt if it got in your eyes. The bottle was half empty, so she filled half up with water and shook it up. She zipped her backpack and began running. She wanted to get to the square early if she wanted to outsmart them. The snow slowed her down, but she kept running. She ran until her lungs burned. She collapsed into the snow to catch her breath. I have to keep running! She thought. once she caught her breath, she was back to running. After a while, she could see the town square. She climbed the steps that lead to the square itself and collapsed again. This time she just stayed there, laying in the snow for a little while. She could feel her blood pulsing. Don't worry Sara. I'll save you.
