"Hey Fern!" Fern could hear Sam say from across the small cave, in the corner. "There's a tunnel." Fern stood up and walked over to Sam. Sure enough, there was a small hole, that looked like it went pretty far. "We must have not been able to see it in the dark." He said. Fern pointed her phone's flashlight in the tunnel. The tunnel was narrow, they would have to squeeze to get into it.
"Let's see where it goes," Sara said with a sleepy voice.
"Your awake!" Fern ran over to her. "How are you feeling?"
"Im fine. Thanks, Mom." Sara joked, making Fern blush with embarrassment.
"Look, I was worried about you, okay?"
"I know. Thanks." Sara smiled. "Where do y'all think that tunnel goes?"
"Who knows. Probably just a dead end." Sam answered.
"Let's find out!" Sara stood up, whining from the obvious pain.
"You're still hurt. Let's wait a little bit." Fern told her, trying to get her to lay back down.
"No, I'm fine. I need the exercise anyway." Sara eventually managed to stand up.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. Let's go." Sara turned the flashlight on her phone on. The tunnel was narrow, so they'd have to go one at a time. Fern took the lead, and Sam took the back so that if they needed to help Sara, they could. Fern hated tight spaces, but more than that, she hated feeling trapped. The tunnel eventually moved into a small cavern, and they could all stand up. There were two more tunnels. We are going to get lost down here. Fern thought. "Which way now?""I think right sounds best. looks like it goes up." Sam replied.
As they turned right and continued walking, the cave began getting narrow again. And not just from the sides, soon they were crawling on all fours. as the rocks closed in, becoming more and more difficult to move through. "I can't go any farther," Sam said. "It's too narrow."
He was right. Even from here, Fern could see the tunnel only got more narrow. "Let's turn back guys!" She told them.
They retraced their steps until they were back at the fork, and This time they went left. The tunnel went down for a little bit before curving up. They continued for a few minutes until the tunnel grew into a much larger tunnel. Suddenly, they noticed something that made them stop in their tracks.
A bear.
