Sara fell asleep quickly, leaving just Fern and Sam awake, listening to the sounds of the cold winter forest.
"Im glad she's safe," Fern told Sam.
"I am too." He replied. after some more silence he added, "Who was that guy?"
"I don't know. I spotted him a few times, so I'm sure he probably knows where everyone is."
"To be fair, that's what those other guys thought about yall, isn't it?" Sam said.
"Good point. but still, Im not walking around in a full-body suit like an astronaut." Fern stared at the wall on the other side of the cave. all she wanted was for everything to go back to normal.
"You should get some sleep. I'll stay up and look out for that guy. No telling where he might take us." Sam told her. Fern hesitated a little bit before agreeing and laying down next to Sara. She closed her eyes and tried to block out any thoughts.
The forest was silent. Fern opened her eyes to find that the cave was still dark. I guess the sun hasn't come out yet. She thought before getting up. She looked over where Sara was, but she wasn't there. "Sara?" Fern asked, slowly standing up. No one answered. "Sara!" Fern shouted, getting worried. "Sam?" Sam was gone too. Fern ran outside the cave and looked around the forest. There was fog everywhere, but no sign of Sara. "Sara!" She screamed.
"Help!" Sara shouted somewhere in the distance.
"Im coming Sara!' Fern ran through the forest.
"Fern! Please hurry!" Sara's voice sounded a little different. Ferns' heart pounded almost as fast as her feet as she raced past the trees.
"Fern!" Sam's voice jolted Ferns's eyes open, sunlight filling her vision and causing her head to hurt. "You were breathing super heavily. You okay?" Sam asked her.
"Im fine. Just a bad dream." Fern murmured softly. Happy to see Sara gently sleeping.
"Alright. Should we wake her up?" Sam asked.
"No," Fern whispered. "Let her sleep."
