I put my hair up in a ponytail and put on some makeup; if you want to get a slight idea it resembles Glamrock Freddy, as I kinda felt like doing something wild. Rowan and I started dating on Christmas, and we've been inseparable. Stacy was coming back day after tomorrow, how I can't wait to spend time with her again! Everything has been so exciting, and my life has finally turned around for the better! I put on a green shirt with black leggings, I take one look in the mirror and giggle to myself "I look great." I say to myself. I turn around to see my Dad knock on my open door "Hey, hon. Rowan's downstairs." He says as I nod "Alright. I'll be down." I say as I walk out of my room and head down, I see Rowan look back at me with a small smile. "Hey, Row." I greet "Ash, come take a seat." He says before patting his lap. I blush lightly and sit down on his lap carefully; he squeezes my sides playfully. I cock my head to the left side "You're here early." I say as he nods "I know, but I decided ta leave early. Couldn't stay 'way from ya any longer." He says before kissing my cheek. I giggle and stand up "You're too sweet." I say. Rowan snaps the fingers of his left hand; causing his dad and my parents to come in to the living room. I arch my brow "Ash, I didn't go into work today." He says "Why not?" I ask "Well, how much do you love me?" He asks. I giggle nervously "I love you a ton, Rowan." I look at everyone in the room. "What's going on...?" I ask "I'm glad ta hear dat. When you were in the hospital, I went there ev'ry day ta see ya, and the second I saw ya at da mall. I was so excited ta see ya again. Ya've changed so much, an' I love ya more now t'an e'er before." He says. Rowan now gets down on his left knee, and my eyes widen as he takes out a black box. He opens the box to reveal a white diamond ring. "Ash Taylor, will ye marry me?" He asks with a bright smile. My eyes fill with tears as I blush a dark red "Rowan...oh my! Yes! Yes, of course!" I exclaim as he smiles, leaps up, and hugs me. Everyone begins to clap and cheer as Rowan and I kiss lovingly.
*1 year later*
Today is January 6th, 2023. The wedding has taken a while to plan, but it was so worth it! I have three bridesmaids, while Rowan has three groomsmen. We decided to get married at the Catholic church him and his dad went to. My dress is a high-low, sleeveless dress, with my hair down in a fishtail pattern. My dad walks me down the aisle while Rowan stands at the pulpit with tears in his eyes, and a smile on his face. This just feels so surreal; my second wedding. Dad takes me up to the altar. My heart is racing as Rowan and I look at each other "Rowan Wellerman, do you take Ash Taylor to be your lawfully wedded wife?" "I do." Rowan answers. Wellerman? That's his last name? Huh? "Ash Taylor, do you take Rowan Wellerman to be your lawfully wedded husband?" He asks "I do." I say in a daze. The pastor begins to talk about love and marriage. Why is his last name Wellerman? Better yet, why didn't I think to ask until now? "By the power invested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride." He says with a clap. I shake my head to rid my thoughts, and Rowan and me kiss at the same time. Everyone claps as I now realize that we have become one. That was my wedding day, the reception was absolutely beautiful and beach themed. I thanked my parents for everything while Rowan granted them a watch and a golden bracelet. We headed off to our honeymoon in the night to head to a cruise; yes, you read that right. We went to Santa Monica for our honeymoon, and we had a blast. Until a parasailing accident caused Rowan to have to go to the ER; his right eye was so hemorrhaged the doctor had to remove it. That was a hard day, but we pulled through; Rowan also looks handsome with an eyepatch. After our honeymoon I found out that I was pregnant, and eight months later here we are! I pick out a kitchen knife set at the grocery store and try to set it into the cart "Oh dear, hold onto that set." An old woman says to me cautiously "Oh, I will. Trust me, I've had practice." I say with a laugh "How far along are you?" She asks "Oh, eight months. Twins." I say with a smile "Oh my goodness, how wonderful! I'm sure you're very happy." She says as I nod "Oh, I couldn't be happier! Things have really turned around." I say as she smiles "Well, I'm so glad to hear that, that coma must have really taught you something, Alice." She says. I freeze; Alice. I turn to look at her "My name is...Ash." I trail off, seeing that she's gone. Weird. I head back to our apartment building; it's right by the dock so Rowan can work with no travel time or expense. I work as a cashier at a grocery store right now until I have the twins. Once I leave the elevator I head down the hall to my door; waving at my neighbor on my left side and opening the door. Rowan is childproofing the cables when he turns to see me and smiles "Hey, Lassie. Glad ta see ya got home." He greets as I arch my brow "Yes, indeed. What's up?" I ask as he smiles "Well, I decided ta finish tyin' up da cables ta the TV. Also, I was wantin' ta have a talk witcha." He replies. I nod and walk to our kitchen to set the groceries down "If it's about that trip to Scottland I'm wanting. Then yes, I'll go pack right now!" I exclaim excitedly as Rowan now laughs "Nah, Lassie. It ain't dat, I know ya wanna go, but not 'til-" "The twins are here. Yes." I say with a playful eyeroll. Rowan walks up to me, grabs the back of my head, and kisses my forehead "Exactly. I was a-wantin' to move da shelf by da TV. I was wantin' ta have yer permission." He says. I look back at our shelf full of books and I nod "Yeah, for now maybe. We might need to move some books though. I can hel-" Rowan hugs me from behind "Ah, no ya don't. Yer sittin' down an' lettin' me do it." He says with a laugh. I pout my bottom lip before moving from him and walking to the bookshelf we have; the books are mostly from our childhoods, family trees, and yearbooks. One book catches my eye; it's red and has "Wellerman" down the spine in yellow, cursive letters. I pull it carefully before plopping down on the couch. I open it up to look at where it starts..."This couple started our name long ago; after stopping the evil man, Grant. The man came up with Wellerman, as he knew things would be well someday. He married Alice Adney and bore twins; Thomas and Elizabeth Wellerman." It reads, my eyes widen "I see ya found me family book, Ash." Rowan says, peering over my right shoulder. I look back at him "Rowan, who is the couple? And why isn't there a picture?" I ask "Babe, d'ere weren't any cameras back den. It was 1650. We call d'em the couple dat started it all. Rowan was my great, great grandfather." He says. I look at him confused; I went back in time to his bloodline? I shake my head "So, who was Alice?" I ask "Alice, her last name was Adney, and she was from England. She had an affair wit my grandfather an' d'ey ran away together. Da story was told by my family fer generations. An' I hope ta tell it to da littles." He says, straightening his eyepatch slightly. It all makes sense now, well, somewhat. "You look like him..." I pause. Rowan arches his brow "Hmm?" He hums "Oh, it's nothing...so, was the crew considered family?" I ask "Well, Rowan was adopted by Cap'n Reid of da Night Soul. She had ta escape her uncle from arranged marriage. She changed 'er whole life fer 'im. She was brave, an' I've always looked up ta 'er fer it." He says cheerfully. I grin at him and kiss his cheek "Did your father name you after him?" I ask, he now nods and I smile. Everything is starting to make sense...maybe, maybe we were supposed to be together, and I needed to see the past in order to see how he would be today. Next month on October 15th we have our twins; a boy and a girl. I feel like this is my second time delivering. It was definitely a hard labor for sure, but it worked out in the end. When the nurses asked me for their names I already knew what to name them "Thomas and Elizabeth Wellerman." I had said. I didn't tell Rowan until that night about my coma, and what all I endured. He didn't really seem to believe me for awhile, but he thought it would be cool regardless. I planned on telling the twins when they grew up the legacy of Alice and Rowan Wellerman; captains of the Night Soul. Sometimes I wonder if I went back in time to change the future; Rowan's last name used to be Grant. As I sit here writing this story out I begin to wonder; what would have happened had I not fell into a coma? It didn't just change Rowan's future, but mine, and my perspective on life. Earlier today I walked into the kitchen and hugged Rowan from behind; just to tell him that I love him dearly. He says it back, but he'll never understand what I went through to get us to where we are now. We had kissed passionately, and it felt amazing. My life has finally felt complete, and all I needed was to stop and care for others instead of my own dreams. The only way to do that though is to see your own habits, your ghosts of how you acted towards others. Look back at the past, to change the future of your life.
The End.
