XXIV -he woke up,Nathan-

it has been quiet for months.

after Christmas, nothing happened from their end. but that doesn't mean they had stopped.

when i asked carl to for help, he immediately agreed. infact when i told him all that happened he was angry i didn't ask him before. now we were in mid-February.

fayre was fine now but for a month she would jump when she heard anything that sounded like a gunshot. she would wake up in the night screaming and sobbing. i tried to be there for her as much as i could be

Carl, Lily and Edwin were already settled in their new country. me and Carl were obviously still in touch and me and lily would talk sometimes too. as for edwin all i had seen the pictures. fayre would show them to me whenever Lily posted them online

we had recognized the girl who shot the bakery as Andromeda's right hand Z. we couldn't find her real name anywhere still. but we at least knew it was the Ophidians

i was asleep when i someone hit me in face with a pillow. i raise my head to see fayre groaning half asleep

"your phone is ringing asshole, pick it up" then i heard the ringtone . i feel something tickling me and see Halo snuggling into my side. i pick up my phone

fayre turns to her side and watches me while stroking the cat's fur

"hello?" i ask

"Aldrin dear, i have good news" i hear helen say happily.

no it can't be-

"Nathan woke up 10 minutes ago and immediately asked about you. i have been trying to get a hold of you"

i was frozen. this is a dream.... it has to be

fayre probably heard her yelling and her eyes widen in shock too

"aldrin honey you there?" she asked

"y-yes. I'll be there in 5. tell him to hold on" i say and hang up

i turn to fayre with a grin so big and with tears in my eyes "he woke up"

"i- i heard- congrats" fayre said with a shocked smile

"we need to get up, get ready, I'll call carl" she nodded and ran to the bathroom

i called carl and he picked it up "everything good?" he asked immediately

"he woke up, carl. Nathan" saying it made tears prick my eyes

there was silence for awhile before he chuckled "that's amazing! are you on the way right now?" he asked

"yes, i just wanted to tell you." he hummed and we hung up

i was already ready but fayre was still in the bathroom "fayre, honey please hurry up" i yelled

she came out hastily "sorry just wanted to make a good impression" she mumbled and i laughed. without saying anything i ran to the door

it was 3am so it was still dark outside. but i was too happy. as i drove i noticed fayre giving my grinning face side glances

as we got to the hospital and i took fayre's hand and ran inside

i remembered the way to the hospital room too well. as we made it to the door, there was a doctor outside

"mr.Ledger, congrats. he is awake, but before i am gonna need you to fill in some forms" before i can say anything fayre spoke up

"you go in al, I'll fill them in. you deserve some alone time with him" she smiles at me. i didn't have words because my mind was in jumbles so i just pecked her and watched her leave with the doctor.

i took a breath and walked into the room. he was sitting up but he had an oxygen mask on

when he saw me, he smiled weakly and waved

"you mother-" i start and rush to his bedside. his eyes widen. "good thing you're awake, i can beat you up now"

he didn't speak. he was probably too weak to but he just smiled back at me

then he pointed to his eyes and then at me, asking if i was crying. then he started laughing but it was not his full laugh.

"fuck off you piece of shit." then the nurse walked in

"sir how are you feeling?" she asked nathan to that he gave a thumbs up. she nodded and took off his mask "you can speak now"

"fucking hell" nathan said but it was hoarse. i tsked and laughed at the same time, of course his first words were a curse

once the nurse was gone, he was silent for a few minutes then he turned to me. he was crying

i knew what he was thinking, we are here but vi was gone. i was crying too

"I'm sorry, i tried but i was-" he cut me off

"Aldrin- you- thank you" he said "i-" he started but stopped when he saw something behind me and his eyes widen. i turn to see fayre standing there

"sorry to intrude but the doctor is asking for Al's signature" she spoke up. i smiled at her and stood up from my chair. i turned to Nathan and he had a blank expression

"Nathan, meet my girlfriend, fayre. I'll be back." i say and as i head to the door i kiss fayre one time with a huge smile

i turn one last time towards nathan and see his eyes widen.

i didn't want to know how he'll feel about me moving on from his sister in just 3 years.

i smiled so big as i walked to the main desk. i got a call from carl and i told him about everything. he insisted he fly back as fast as he could.

as i was approaching the desk, fayre came behind me

"hey what are you doing here?" i ask

"it was too awkward with Nathan" she said sheepishly. i laughed and nodded in understanding

before i could say another word, there was scream from the down the hall

from nathan's room

i didn't think twice before running to the room

my ears were ringing. my brain was numb.

all i saw as i walked in was a nurse standing there shocked and Nathan with a pillow over his face and one side of the pillow red. his hand falling off the bed lifelessly

there was no beeping of the heart monitor
