I fluttered my eyes open. I was still a bit tired, but I was relaxed. When I opened my eyes it took a second for my eyes to get used to the bright white light that filled my room. My eyes adjusted and I stared out of my window. The light was coming from it.
I felt my stomach turn. It was a Monday. The start of the week. Mondays usually weren't bad, but later on in the day some bad luck would catch up to me. I never knew why, but I tried to ignore it for as long as I possibly could.
I slid off of my bed. I turned my head over to my clock on my nightstand. It was 4 in the morning. I didn't have work until 7.
I slipped my slippers onto my feet and walked out of my bedroom. I assumed Nightmare was downstairs in the living room, maybe reading. As I stepped off of the stairs last step, I heard something fall in the kitchen. I quickly made my way into the room, and Nightmare was at the stove top.
He was bent over a pan that was on the floor. I raised an eye brow at the scene. Was Nightmare making breakfast? Did he even know how to cook?
Nightmare's gaze left the pan as he heard me enter the room. He stood up and looked over at me. "Well morning. I tried making breakfast." His gaze drifted away from me and back to the stove top. He was making some eggs.
"And why is that? I thought you were a king." I chuckled a bit in the middle of my sentence. Nightmare shrugged and continued to cook the eggs.
"Thought I'd try to do something around here. You've been letting me just hang around." He grabbed the pan's handle and dumped it over a plate. The eggs fell onto the plate, and he pushed the food to a spot at the table. "Now eat. I expect you to eat it all."
I made my way over to the spot at the table. The eggs didn't look burnt or under cooked. I nodded in approval with a smile. I sat down and began to eat. "Hey. These don't taste half bad." I placed the utensil I was using to eat the eggs down and stared at Nightmare. He rolled his eye light and his gaze trailed to me.
"Yeah, yeah. Now get your ass upstairs." He sounded serious, but with a bit of a joking manner. I saluted to him and ran upstairs. I heard him 'tch' at my actions as I ran past him. It didn't take that long to eat, and It was now 4:10.
I opened my door and made my way over to my closet to pick out my uniform.
...
After I had done everything I needed to do to get prepared for work, I ran down the stairs to see where Nightmare was. When I discovered he wasn't in the house, I took the time to think about some things, so I sat on the couch.
Why had Nightmare started to become nicer to me? I had asked this question to myself a few times, but it seemed more important now than ever. He said I was a "negative battery", but then now treats me as if I'm a friend. It was odd, but I couldn't complain. I wasn't being treated like shit, and I didn't mind if he did still use me as a negative battery. After all, that was the whole point of him being here.
I sighed and fell back into the couch, my arms spread out. I sat laying against the couch for a few minutes. It was relaxing to say the least. The quiet room made it more ominous, but calming at the same time.
I then felt something cold around my wrists. I opened my eyes in a shocked manner as I was lifted up off of the couch. I swung a bit in the air, and then I realize what was happening. It was just Nightmare toying with me. I sighed and waited for him to put me down, but he didn't.
"You've got work. If I didn't spook you, you would have been late." He stared at me for a few seconds. He sounded as if he cared for me in a different way. My career, health, and emotions seemed to be on the line right now, but in a positive way.
