I hadn't even realized I had fallen asleep on Nightmare. Nightmare had not moved the whole entire night. I stayed still still leaning against Nightmare. I slumped down a bit more into Nightmare, becoming more comfortable.
I heard Nightmare release a dark chuckle.
Shivers shot up my spine from the chuckle. I looked up at Nightmare who was staring down at me with a smile. His eye sockets shot wider and the smile faded from his face. A bright teal color spread across his cheek bones and he turned away from my direction. I giggled at his actions.
"Well good morning Nightmare." I moved my head away from where it had been placed on Nightmare's shoulder. He looked over at me, and the teal color had disappeared.
"Morning." He muttered something under his breath, which I couldn't quite hear. I raised an eyebrow showing my visible confusion, though the expression suddenly faded.
"Hey Night, would you wanna help me decorate for Halloween?" I tensed up a bit at the question. I was afraid he was going to say no.
He continue staring at me for a second, taking the question in. "Sure." He shrugged and had a small grin on his face. My face lit up at his response.
"Great! I'll go and get the items." I quickly got up from excitement and rushed upstairs. I pulled a string leading to a door in the ceiling. A ladder slowly fell from the ceiling. I took a single step up the ladder before feeling the air become colder, signaling that Nightmare had approached.
He wrapped a tendril around my waist and pulled me off the step. He looked up into the open rectangle in the ceiling up into the attic. He squinted his eyes and then let me go. I quickly made my way back up the steps making sure Nightmare couldn't grab me again.
I looked around the attic for a few boxes labeled "Halloween". I found them against a wall in a dusty corner. I walked far enough into the attic where I had disappeared from Nightmare's sight. I heard some footsteps coming up the steps as I grabbed onto the box.
I turned my head around and looked at Nightmare. He placed his hands in his pockets and 2 tendrils appeared from his back. They both wrapped around the remaining boxes and he walked down the steps. The tendrils and boxes followed behind his slowly.
I gripped onto the box and lifted it up. It wasn't a heavy box at all. The box was cold and it felt grainy. I carried the box to the steps and placed it down. I made my way around to the other side of the box, and pulled it down the stairs.
I continued to pull the box down the stairs slowly. Every step was anxiety filling. A creak released every wooden plank as my foot landed on their surfaces. I turned around holding the box in my grip tightly. One last step to go. I inhaled, but didn't exhale. I turned back around and took the final step.
Miss
I fell down the stairs quickly, and on the final step too! A wishing sound passed by my ears as I fell. I braced myself for impact with the floor but it never came.
"You idiot. You've gotta be careful." I opened my eyes to be face to face with Nightmare. I disregarded my own safety and health and looked around for the box containing the Halloween decorations. I could see the box in one of Nightmare's tentacles.
I sighed in relief as Nightmare started walking back downstairs with the box and me in his grasp. He placed me next to the boxes, while the third box was neatly stacked on top of the others. I stared at the pile for a few seconds before lifting the top box off the stack. I placed the box on the floor next to me.
