The GAang sat around a lively fire, the orange light casting weird shadows on Sokka's face. They had set up camp in a forest, and found a small rock formation that served as a good resting place for Appa.
The fire's glow made the trees around them look more ominous than they already were. Sokka stood by the tree that stretched over them, it's branches leafless and winding as though they were reaching out for something.
For some reason, they thought telling scary stories in the dead of night was a good idea.
"Suddenly, they heard something down the hall, in the dark," Sokka continued with his story, his voice quiet. "Oooooh," Sokka made a ghost-like noise. "It came into the torchlight. And they knew the blade of Wing-Fun was haunted!" Sokka drew his sword out, and made a screeching noise.
(Y/n) sat between Toph and Aang, looking up at Sokka with her legs crossed, and her head in her hands. The other kids looked just as bored.
"I think I liked "the man with a sword for a hand" better." Aang said.
"Water Tribe slumber parties must stink." Toph said.
Aang sat with his legs out, leaning backwards on his hands. He rolled his head back like his neck couldn't support the weight. He rolled it towards (Y/n) to look at her. "Got any good ones?"
"Mm," (Y/n) hummed in thought. "Maybe a few."
"No wait! I've got one," Katara said. "And this is a true Southern Water Tribe story."
Sokka sits on the ground, dons with his dramatics. "Is this one of those "a friend of my cousin knew some guy that this happened to" stories?"
"No, it happened to mom." Katara answered.
Sokka narrowed his eyes at her, sitting a little straighter. Aang sat up from his relaxed position.
Katara told the story of Nini, a friend of her mother's, and the snow storm she got caught in. Katara's mother had found the girl frozen and whispering to an active fire going on the fireplace of the house, and when her mother went to call for help, Nini was gone.
It seemed to do the trick of spooking everyone a little bit.
Toph looks uneasy as she takes the story in, then she gasps. "Wait," She puts her hands to the ground. "Guys, did you hear that? I hear people under the mountain, and they're screaming."
Aang and Katara immediately clutch onto (Y/n)'s arms for safety. She pulls her arms in tighter to her body to get the kids closer.
Sokka looks like he's about to piss himself, then relaxes. "Pfft, nice try."
"No, i'm serious, I hear something." Toph said.
"You're probably just jumpy from the ghost stories." Katara tries to reason.
(Y/n) was getting a little freaked out, now. She knew to trust Toph's sense, it never let them down.
"It just stopped." Toph says after a short pause.
"Alright, now i'm getting scared." Aang mutters, his speech muffled because he had his cheek pressed up to (Y/n)'s arm.
"Hello, children."
(Y/n) screams loudly. Everyone else shouts too, and (Y/n) scrambles to grab Katara and Aang's arms, running to the other side of the fire to face whoever just came up from behind them.
"Sorry to frighten you, my name is Hama," She was an old woman wearing a red robe, with long white hair. "You children shouldn't be out in the forest by yourselves at night. I have an inn nearby, why don't you come back there for some spiced tea and warm beds?"
