some darker themes are present towards the end of this chapter!! please keep that in mind when reading:)
Everyone gathered around the campfire, the flames warming them up from the cool air around them. Sokka sat further away from the fire, studying his boomerang. He had been in a weird funk all day, and wouldn't mention anything to (Y/n) even though she asked. She had decided to let it be; he'd tell her when he was ready.
The sun had set, and Zuko had taken the pot of tea from the fire.
"No one can make tea like Uncle, but hopefully I learned a thing or two," Zuko said, kind of talking to himself as he poured out cups of tea for the group. "Would you like to hear Uncle's favourite tea joke?"
"Sure, I like jokes!" Aang pipes.
"Bring it." Toph says.
Zuko takes the tray of cups and begins to pass them around. "Okay, well, I can't remember how it starts, but the punch line is "leaf me alone, i'm bushed"!"
Zuko's smile falls when he realizes the joke couldn't land without the buildup. "Well, it's funnier when Uncle tells it. (Y/n), do you remember how it goes?"
She shrugs as Zuko gives her a warm teacup. "No, sorry."
"Right...maybe it's funnier because he remembers the whole thing." Katara says, and everyone giggles.
Zuko smiles and gets up to continue passing the tea.
"It's nice to get a chance to relax a little. It hardly ever happens." Toph says.
"I've caught (Y/n) training nearly every day." Aang says, taking a sip of his tea.
"I'm not trying to keep it a secret! You're all training too, remember?" (Y/n) says, sitting straighter.
"Yeah, but i've caught you when you told Katara you wouldn't anymore, and—"
"Shh!" (Y/n) rolls her eyes and groans. "What happened to being on my side, kid?"
"I'm sorry, she kept asking, and I couldn't lie to her, and—"
"It's not like I couldn't feel you, either. Y'know, seeing through my feet and all?" Toph smiles, wiggling her toes in the air.
"Snitches." (Y/n) huffed, laying down on her back.
She yelped when Toph jolted the ground under her in retaliation to her remark.
They spent the rest of the night laughing and talking together, and everyone brought their bedrolls out to have a little sleepover.
Once all the younger kids were asleep, (Y/n) got up to grab her own bedroll from her room, because Aang had insisted she participate the sleepover.
She went to her room, picked up her roll, and nearly shit herself when she turned around to see Zuko standing in her doorway.
"Zuko! You can't just sneak up on me like that. Spirits." (Y/n) breathed, holding a hand to her heart.
"Sorry. I, uh, i'm worried about Sokka." Zuko said.
(Y/n) raised a brow. "How so?"
"Tonight he pulled me aside and asked where his dad would be right now."
"Oh? And did you tell him?"
"I did. The Boiling Rock prison. I'm worried that he might—"
"Try and go find him. Gotcha." (Y/n) put down her bedroll, and picked up her quiver, beginning to count the arrows she had.
