After the war, everyone seemed to part ways for a while. Sokka and Katara went back to the Southern Water Tribe, Toph went to form her metalbending academy in the Earth Kingdom, while Zuko, (Y/n), and Aang stayed in the Fire Nation. Suki stayed in the Fire Nation too, since the Kyoshi warriors were serving as guards for Zuko.

It was so wonderful to see Suki and Meya reunite with each other.

(Y/n) stayed in the Fire Nation as an advisor to Zuko, and a trainer for military personnel. After the war, the everyone in the military was brought home and either imprisoned for their war crimes, or pardoned and allowed back into everyday life. Most of the soldiers didn't align with the Fire Nation's old values, and they were allowed to leave the forces.

The ones who wanted to stay and reinstate a proper military were allowed to. (Y/n), along with new military leaders, trained new people into shape for the task. Their purpose wasn't destruction anymore; it was peace.

Zuko and Aang formed the United Republic of Nations soon after the war. It was a place to unite the nations, and it became a safe haven for immigrants. It sat in what was formerly the Fire Nation colonies.

Years passed, and the GAang got older. Aang quickly surpassed (Y/n) in height, which was weird. She couldn't hold the small 12 year old boy in her arms anymore. The spry young boy was growing into a good man, and an even better Avatar.

Sokka proposed to (Y/n) a couple years after the 100 Year War. They were young, but they knew they needed each other. He proposed to her while she was visiting the Southern Water Tribe. He did it while the two of them went out fishing on a small canoe, just the two of them. In usual Sokka fashion, it was silly and heartfelt, and (Y/n) was crying tears of joy and tears of laughter. It was private, and it was just the way they liked it.

Their wedding took place not long after, it was a small affair in the Fire Nation with close friends and family around. It was full of pure love and joy, and it was one of the happiest days of their lives.

The years were passing by so quickly. Katara and Aang got married, and Zuko and Mai got married. It was odd for (Y/n) to see everyone grow up so quickly around her.

They had more responsibilities as they grew older. Zuko had to lead a whole country, Katara became one of, if not the best waterbender in the world, Aang had his Avatar duties, Toph became the chief of police in Republic City, while Sokka and (Y/n) were on council in the city, representing their home countries.

The passage of time came with loss. Suki had died young, while on duty acting as a guard for Fire Lord Zuko from assassins. Her death pained them all, but she died by the love of her life, and she died doing the job that made her happy.

Loss wasn't the only thing time brought, it also gave new life.

Aang and Katara had three children: Bumi, Kya, and Tenzin. All wonderful kids, almost as good as their parents.

Zuko and Mai had one girl, Izumi.

Toph had two girls, Suyin and Lin. She never told the others who the father was, and none of them bothered to press her about it.

Sokka and (Y/n) had three children of their own. Neither of them thought they'd ever have any, but it turned out to be the best decision they'd ever made. Their firstborn daughter they named Suki, in honour of their late friend. Their second child was a boy, who they named Hakoda, after Sokka's passed father. Their last child was a girl, who they named Lihua, after (Y/n)'s mother. Hakoda and Lihua actually turned out to be benders: Hakoda was a firebender, and Lihua was a waterbender. Sokka and (Y/n) were surprised to find out that they could have bending children, but it ran in their blood. They had to ask Aang, Zuko, and Katara to help with teaching their kids how to bend.

Sokka and (Y/n) laughed about the irony of their names and their abilities. Suki was a non-bender, just like her parents. Sokka and (Y/n) raised their kids in a household full of love. All three turned out to be great kids.

The years continued to go on, all of the children growing, and the GAang getting older. Sokka and (Y/n) eventually retired from being on the council, leaving it to the younger generations.

Aang had to sit everyone down and let them know that he could feel his time coming. It was a sad day when he told everyone, it didn't seem like it was time. (Y/n) didn't want to believe that the young boy she had taken care of all of these years was going to pass before she was. Being stuck in the ice for all of that time had taken a toll on his body.

Then, the day came. He passed peacefully in his home, with Katara and their children by his side. Sokka and (Y/n) mourned with them, their best friend was gone too soon.

But that meant the new Avatar was born.

She was found 4 years later, a young girl born in the Southern Water Tribe. By that time, she was already bending 3 of the elements, all except for air. Her name was Korra.

In her young life, Korra was attacked by the Red Lotus, an organization set on ending the Avatar cycle. Sokka had gone to defend her, and was injured in the battle. He, thankfully, didn't sustain any fatal injuries.

Though, a few years later, old age caught up to him. Sokka got sick, and (Y/n) had to watch as he slowly lost his strength.

But he never lost his spirit. He managed to make (Y/n) laugh and smile as she sat by his bedside. She took care of him incessantly, making sure he never needed for anything.

He made her feel so loved towards the end. That was one thing Sokka made sure to never cut corners on, it was loving (Y/n).

But they both knew that the time was coming. (Y/n) brought their children and Katara to their home to be with Sokka in his final days.

Sokka passed away holding (Y/n)'s hand, his children and his sister by his side.

As (Y/n) grows sick as well, she lives without regrets. She spent most of her life with the most wonderful person she had ever met. Sokka was someone who couldn't be replaced, someone who loved her so wholly that she pitied anyone who couldn't experience what she had.

She never felt anything but happiness in her years with Sokka. She only wanted one thing: more time. But she knew that Sokka had no regrets either, and that he was at peace when he went.

Towards the end, she is at peace with a full heart, and full of the wisdom she had been granted through her life.

"Love is brightest in the dark."
-Katara

"When love is real, it finds a way."
