Guards quickly surrounded me and picked me up, dragging me across the room. "Don't touch the sword!" I screamed, staring at the prince as the dragged me out of the room and down to the cells. The guards threw me in the cell, I landed on knees and stayed there. They locked the door and left me alone. What did I just do...

I sat against the wall and hugged my knees. I sat there for what seemed like days, the ground was cold, and it smelled like a sewer in here. I could hear the faint sound of water dripping and the squeaks of mice as they scurried across the ground. The echo of a door opening brought me back to reality.

"The King request your presence. On your feet!" A short man barked at me. I stood up slowly and approached the cell. He opened it and grabbed my arm practically pulling it out of place. I let out a small yelp and he tightened his grip. He dragged me to the throne room and the large doors opened and I saw the Prince and King sitting on their thrones. The guard threw me towards them, and I stumbled and fell to my knees.

"Your majesties." I whimpered out as I bowed my head.

"Leave us." The King ordered and the room cleared, and the door closed. I waited for my punishment which would likely be dead for attempt on the Princes Life. A tear escaped my eye and fell with a plop to the ground. "You may stand miss." I hesitated and slowly stood, steadying myself.

"So, you are an Air Warrior?" The King directed towards me.

"Ye_Yes sir..I mean, yes your majesty." I stammered on my words, trying to get them out.

"I have not heard of another Air Warrior in decades. Not since I found out one my head guard was an Air warrior, I never knew. We honored him and the other fallen soldiers." He pointed to the wall covered in named behind me. I saw the Air symbol next to my father's name and smile a little. "Is something amusing miss?" The King shouted, clearly annoyed at my smile.

"Sorry your majesty...it_it's just." I stopped myself crippled with fear as I stared at the eyes of the intimidating King.

"Speak!" His voice echoed causing me tremble.

"He_he was my father." I blurted out. I looked at his name again as a tear fell. "And he was a brave warrior and an amazing father and teacher. But he wasn't an Air Warrior your majesty... He told the Ash Relm he was the Element Warrior when they caught us in the woods training. They saw he wore your symbol so, they killed him before I could confess." My voice shook as I finished my sentence.

"Is that why you tried to kill my son, our future King? To get revenge for your father?"

I looked at his stunned by his words. My eyes moved to the Prince who wouldn't even look at me.

"No! I wasn't trying to harm him. If I caused him harm, I am sorry from the bottom of my heart_"

The King Interrupted me, "then why!?" His words felt like knives cutting through me.

"The sword was poisoned! I overheard Prince William talking with one of his men, he said they would be long gone before the poison went into effect. I tried to yell but, my voice was too quiet, I was too far away and the only thing I could think of was to knock it out of his hands before your son touched it! I didn't mean to hurt him!" I cried out.

Before the King could respond a knock echoed and the King ordered them the enter. A small man entered and approached the throne. I heard them whispering and then the King hissed, "Find him!" and the man ran out of the room. He stood and walked towards me; my legs felt like jelly as he inched closer to me. He reached out and grabbed my hand, bringing it to his lips kissing my hand softly. "Please, accept my deepest apologies Miss. I was just informed they confirmed the sword had been poisoned. I have treated you awfully."

I was scared to make eye contact with him, "call me Skylar." It came out as more of whisper.

"We are in your debt Skylar, let us repay you. Please." He nodded as I finally met his eyes. Christopher looked just like him, they both hand ice blue eyes and brown hair but, Christophers was curly. They had similar facial features both were very handsome.

"I_ I don't even know what you could even do for me... I don't want money your majesty, I just want to go back to my room." He looked at me surprised I turned his offer down.

"Very well, at least stay in one of our guest rooms for the night." I hesitated before nodded in agreement. I curtsied and turned to leave when a voice stopped me.

"Why?" I stopped and faced the King, he was turned towards his son who was standing looking at me with eyes of desperation.

"Prince_ I mean... Your majesty. I_I didn't mean to hurt you.. I'm sorr_"

He stepped towards me causing me to take a step backwards. He stopped when he saw he had scared me. "Why did you risk exposing yourself to save me. You knew that using your gift meant the Ash realm would hunt you." His eyes soften as he stared at me waiting for an answer.

"You... You didn't deserve to die, and I could stop it. So, I decided it was worth the risk. That you... were worth the risk." My voice trailed off and I shook as I feared what he might say.

"I owe you my life Skylar Williams." My name coming out of his mouth made my heart lit up, I knew he could never be with a servant like myself, but I couldn't help but blush. "You turned down our money but, what about a position on my Royal Guard." I looked at him confused by his words. The King was just as surprised.

"Son, we have never had a female Guard let alone one on the Royal Guard!" Christopher turned towards him and nodded.

"Maybe it is about time that changed. I will train her personally." He looked at me and smiled. "If she passes the test for the Royal Guard, she will be knighted." he spoke to his father with a strong voice and his father nodded in agreement.

"So, what do you say Skylar? Are you ready to fight."?

I didn't know what to say, I just stared at them... was I ready? What if I failed? No. I needed to do this.

"For my family." I nodded in agreement, and we shook hands.

They had one of the guards show me to my new room. Christopher told me to meet him in the armory early in the morning, he said he would send a servant to wake me.
