David walked with me to my room and couldn't stop apologizing and asking if I was okay. I know he felt bad but, he didn't have a reason too. I made a choice to reveal myself, it was my decision and I alone, must live with whatever comes next.
"Prince Christopher offered to train me... he wants me to join the Royal Guard." I watched as he stopped walking and turned his attention towards me as I finished my sentence.
"The Royal Guard, really?" His eyes were wide and I could see the wrinkles in his scare stretching.
"I know, I'm a woman so, it probably won't happen but, maybe I could fight in the war that is bound to happen. I want to make my family proud." My words lost volume and I found myself staring at the marble floor.
"I didn't_" I heard him take a breath. "I didn't mean it to sound like I didn't think you could do it Sky, I was just surprised I guess." He placed his hand on my shoulder causing me to look at him. He was smiling down at me, "Your family is already proud of you Sky, it would be an honor to fight beside you kid." He gave me a reassuring nod and we continued down a long hallway.
We stopped in front of a large white door, he motioned for me to open it. "Goodnight, kid, I'll see you around. Best of luck, I'll be cheering for you Sky."
I pushed open the door and a gasp escaped my lips. The room was a light shade of rose, the walls were decorated with breathtaking artwork. A large wooden window allowed sunlight to pour into the room, reflexing off the metal vases. The bed laid to the right of the window, it had a red and black quilt, it was the biggest bed I have ever seen. It had at least 12 pillows on it and my lit up like a kid in a candy store. I saw a beautiful love seat in the corner of the room next to a small bookcase. Reading was one of my favorite things to do, mum always made sure we had a good education, my father would bring me books from the castle to read when he was away. A smile spread across my face, and I placed my hand on the necklace hanging from my neck. I saw a large mirror sitting upon the dresser across the room.
I caught my reflection, I looked tired. I had dark circles around my eyes emphasized by my pale skin. My hair was messy, dirt and tears were scattered along my uniform. I saw a bruise starting to form on my arm where the guard had dragged me from my cell. I heard a knock on my door, and I glanced at the door confused. A small voice spoke from the other side.
"Miss Skylar? I am here to help you dress for bed." I walked towards the door and opened it sightly. My eyes met a young girl with blonde hair, she was thin and had a shy face. I smiled at her and opened the door a little wider.
"What does your name miss?" She was taken back by my question, and she shifted around before answering.
"Claire, my lady" she curtsied which made a giggle escape my lips.
"Sorry_ I didn't mean to laugh at you. No one has ever curtsied to me before. It is a pleasure to meet you, Claire. I really don't need assistance, but I could use help finding my way back to the serving courters to collect my belongings.
Her large green eyes study my face as if she were trying to make sense of my words, "You were a servant?"
Her question was blunt, "I guess I still am, I'm not really sure what is going to happen now." It came out as more or a question, I guess I never really thought about what training with the Prince would mean.
"Sorry my lady_"
"Please, call me Skylar." I gave her a reassuring smile as she nodded.
"I can gather your things from your room my_ I mean, Skylar."
"I could use a walk; do you mind if I accompany you?" She nodded; I could tell it made her happy that I offered to walk with her. I walked out of the room and closed the door behind me, and we made our way toward the servant courters.
