"Holy shit, that was amazing!" He shouted, the excitement on his face made me smile. I laughed as he walked towards me. He ran his hand through his hair, it looked messy, but it suited him.
"I haven't done that in year. I used to fly around with Judy, she used to pretend to be a bird!" I laughed as the memory of her played in my mind. I didn't realize how close Christopher had gotten until I felt his hand wrap around mine squeezing it softly.
"I never got the change to give my condolences for what happen to your family. I would love to hear more about them sometime." His eyes soften as his hand rest of my cheek. This thumb softly ran along my cheek, sending shivers through my body. His eyes dropped to my lips as he grinned.
I could feel like face heating up under his hand. "I would like that." I spoke in almost a whisper. His eyes found their way make to mine. He leaned in slowly inches from my lips, I could feel his breath on lips. I closed my eyes as his lips softly touched mine but only for a moment.
"Your majesty, Sir. I apologies for interrupting, the King is requesting a meeting." A guard cleared his throat behind us. Christopher nodded at him and then turned his attention back to me.
"I uh_" He was nervous. Maybe he was embarrassed his guard saw him almost kiss a servant or maybe he regrated trying to kiss me. Was it me? I stepped back a little, giving him space.
"It's okay. I need to prepare for my test tomorrow anyway." I gave him a weak smile and bent down to pick up his cape. I helped him secure it with the pendent and we headed back.
I had avoided Christopher the rest of the day, I decided to do some reading instead. I told Claire that I was staying in for the night so, I did not need her to check on me the rest of the day. I fell asleep early hoping to be well rested for my Royal guard test.
I was woken up by the sound of footsteps. I sat up, looking around. "Sorry my dear, I didn't mean to wake you." A startled Claire said as she placed some clothes on the foot of my bed.
"No, it's okay. Why are you here so early this morning?" I smiled at her kindly as I crawled out of bed.
"I brought you some clothes for your fight today." She held up a small chest plate. "Also, I had some temporary armor made for you, fitted to your size. The armor worn by the men are much too bulky and slow you down."
"Claire! This is beyond anything I could ever imagine. Thank you so much!" I hugged and she wrapped her arms around me rubbing my back.
"It is my pleasure, let me help you get dressed." She handed me a pair of black trousers. She placed the chainmail over my head and shoulders. She helped me pull the leather armor coat over my head, tightening the chest plate. I sat down, lacing up my boots. "It's not perfect but_"
"It's great Claire, really. I can't thank you enough." I took a deep breath as she sat next to me.
"Let's show them what us girls are made of." She bumped me slightly and we laughed. She walked with me to the training grounds.
As we walked in, I could feel everyone's eyes on me. Some of the men were looking at me with hatful looks, while others seem curious. There was a small crowd of villagers gathering in the distance. I felt my stomach start to do flips and I felt sick. I was terrified of failing. I made my way towards where the King and Christopher were standing.
I walked past David who leaned in and whispered, "You got this kid." as he gave me a reassuring nod.
I reached the King and curtsied as I greeted them. I took a deep breath, steadying myself as the King made his speech.
