My eyes were heavy, and I could feel my body shaking as I sat there. I slowly lifted my head as I heard the sound of shouting. I looked around, searching for the sound. I got to my feet quickly causing my head to spin. Black dots filled my vison as I fell to the ground. My vison was blurry, and I heard muffled voices. I felt a hand touched my face, causing me to flinch. I tried to steady my vison, blinking my eyes tight as a face stared down at me. Slowly the figure came into focus... "Chris" I breathed out, closing my eyes as I lost consciousness.
The last thing I remember was the sight of Chris standing over me... at least, I thought it was Chris. I could hear a creaking sound and a steady tapping. My eyes opened slightly, adjusting to the light of the room, I blinked a few times clearing my throat. I slowly reached for the water cup beside me, knocking it over as it spilt everywhere.
"Hey, don't worry. Let me help." I saw him pick the cup up and go over to the bucket and get some more. He gently put it against my lips allowing me to drink it slowly.
"Thank you." I said as I coughed a little. I stared at him, trying to read what he was thinking. His eyes looked at me, they were dark, full of sadness. I reached out, grabbing his arm and squeezing it. "I'm here. I'm okay now."
He shook his head as he sat down, gently resting his forehead on my hand as he held it tight. "I'm so sorry Sky_"
"You have nothing to be sorry for. Do you hear me? This isn't your fault." I stopped when a tear landed on my arm. My heart broke seeing him like this. "I missed you, my love."
He smiled as he wiped his tears away quickly. "Not as much as I missed you." He leaned forward, kissing me gently. My lip was split open, and it was painful but, it was worth it to feel his lips on mine again. "Who did this to you?" His eyes searched my body and his hand softly touching my neck as he spoke.
"One of the guards... he thought I would be the easiest to break between the two of us..." My sentence faded when I remembered David. "David? Is he okay?" My eyes shot up to his, searching for an answer.
"Better than okay kid, doctor said I'll be back to work in no time." My eyes followed the voice. David was standing in the door was smiling. He walked towards me slowly, holding his side as he walked. "How are you doing?" He asked, his voice serious.
"I'll be okay, don't worry. Just a few bumps and bruises." I let out a small laugh to let him know I was fine. He sat down in the chair with a grunt as he exhaled loudly. He looked up at Christopher who was staring at me with pain in his eyes.
"I wanted to hear what happened... from both of you." He said as he looked back and forth between the two of us. I saw David nod and Chris sat on my bed, extending his legs as he wrapped his arm around me, careful not to squeeze me too tight.
"The guards put us in separate cells, they took Skylar first, they thought she would be easy to break, when she returned to the cell, I could see the bruises and blood on her face. My blood boiled at the thought of them hitting her. They let us sit there for 3 days with no food or water. When they returned..." He stopped and looked at me.
"When they returned David tried to convince them that I didn't know anything. He stood up for me and told them to pick on someone their own size. The guard told his men to take us both into the room. The made me strip down and tied me to the pole." I felt Chris's heartbeat speed up when I said they had me strip down. "They made David watch as they beat me. That's when they brought in the hot iron rod..." I said, flinches as I remembered the sound and smell of my burning skin as he held the hot circle to my skin.
Davids eyes were sad, and he sighed, "they told me if I told them who the air warrior was that they would stop... I couldn't tell them, sir." His voice broke as he looked at Christopher, pleading for forgiveness. "I wanted to tell them it was me; I knew they would kill us as soon as we gave them anything... it should have been me that got those scars. I'm so sorry Sky." He grabbed my hand as he sobbed. Chris rested his hand on his shoulder.
"This isn't your fault. You didn't do this to me, King Victor is responsible. Don't blame yourself." I lifted his head and placed my hand on his cheek. I gave him a nod. "I thought we were going to die in there... but Prince William helped us escape."
"The Prince? Why?" Chris asked confused.
"He is a water warrior; he is terrified of his father... he has hidden who he was his entire life. He let us go and told us that not everyone agreed with his father's ideology. I think he is the key to a peace treaty between the kingdoms." I looked to Christopher with confidence in my statement.
"Thanks for not leaving me in the tunnel kid." He smiled as he kissed my hand. "I thought I was dead for sure."
"Not if I can help it. Besides, if you die who is going to train me how to patrol the grounds." I said jokingly causing him to laugh.
"So... what about the dragon?" Christopher spoke, slightly terrified. I let out a giggle as I thought of the face he probably made when it landed inside the castle walls.
