I smiled as they both stared at me waiting for an answer. "When we headed towards the caves, I heard a whisper... almost as if the cave was calling me. When the dragon appeared, I felt a connection. I trusted him."
"Him?" Christopher asked with a hint of speculation.
"Kilo." A smile curved on the corners of my mouth. I held the dragon tooth in my fingertips. "The Air Warriors and dragons have a connected destiny... He is my spirit dragon; I can communicate with him. He has stayed hidden in the caves waiting for his two eggs to hatch. They are the last of their species." My words were sad thinking about the destruction that the Ash relm had caused to my people and those innocent creatures.
"Is that why he has violet eyes... because he is your spirit dragon?" I nodded.
"I must speak with my father... We need to make a plan to attack. This war is about to start, get some rest you two, you will need your strength."
*4 weeks later*
Christopher didn't let me out of his sight the following weeks, I wasn't complaining though. I opened my eyes, letting the sun hit my face as I saw him lying there. He was staring at me with a goofy grin on his face. "Good morning princess."
I let out a small laugh as I rolled my eyes, "Good morning." He kissed me softly as he rolled out of bed.
"We have an important meeting today; we don't want to be late." He smiled as I watched him dress. I quickly made my way to my room and dressed in my leather armor and tucked my staff away. I ran down to the training field where Christopher and most of the guard were waiting. I apologized, bowing to Christopher which made him chuckle a little. He hid it quickly calling the attention of his men.
"As you all know, the war has begun... We plan to end it before it can progress. The Prince, Prince William has let it be known that he does not share his father's ideology. If we can kill the king, he must take the crown. He is our best hope in harboring peace between the kingdoms. We have been planning and training for an attack of the Ash relm castle. We all have our missions, take the rest of the day off... we make our move tonight." He spoke solemnly, letting his words fill the silence of the men. He had a way of commanding a room, he was a born leader and he was damn good at him. He dismissed the men, leaving only us standing there.
He approached me, "Nervous?" He asked as he grabbed my hand.
"I'd be lying if I said no... but, I'm not afraid. I was born to fight this war; this is my destiny." I spoke with confidence. He leaned in and kissed my cheek.
"My father wishes to speak with us." He nodded, escorting me to the throne room where the King was waiting. I stood there waiting for someone to break the silence.
"I cannot leave the castle; it would be an honor to fight alongside the two of you. I must stay and prepare for the outcome of defeat..." He spoke with concern in his voice. I knew that he meant if we were killed. It is custom for the king to remain in the castle to rule the kingdom that would be left if we failed. We both nodded.
"We will fight our hardest father; we won't let you down." He bowed as he spoke, his voice was confident.
"It is an honor to fight for you your majesty, I will do my best to make sure that no harms come to Prince Christopher." I saw him look at me with daggers as I spoke... the trust is, I'd sacrifice my life to save him. Even though, I know he would hate me for it. He was the Prince, his life out ranked mine. I saw his mouth open to speak but he was cut off by his father.
"Take care of yourself as well Skylar, I've grown quite fawned of you." He flashed me a smile that made my heart smile. We excused ourselves and went back to his room.
"I_" He stopped as he looked at me. I gave him a questioning glance. He was nervous, I could see the slight fear in his eyes. Was he scared about the mission? I watched as he thought hard about something, he was debating whether to speak or not.
"What's wrong?" I grabbed him, pulling him into a hug, as I wrapped my arms around his waist. I could hear his heart beating fast as my head rested on his chest. I heard him take a deep breath before he spoke.
''I don't want you to think that I am asking this because of what is happening tonight... I've wanted to do this for a long time but_"
He pulled away as he held my waist, an arm length away. His eyes were soft. He fumbled at his pocket as I searched his face for answers. He cleared his throat, twitching a little as he rubbed his neck.
He dropped to one knee, taking my hand in his. My eyes widen as I realized what he was doing. "I've been in love with you since the day I saw you, you were brave and kind. Unlike any girl I have ever met before. You have changed my life; you make me a better man...A better Prince. I don't know what will happen tonight but, I do know that I don't want to spend another second not calling you, my princess. So, Skylar Williams... will you make me the happiest man alive. Will you marry me?" His eyes stared up at me, full of admiration. I looked at the Ruby ring he held in his hand.
my heart was beating fast, and I felt like my stomach was going to explode. I was shaking. "Yes. Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes." He stood to his feet, picking me up. Tears fell from my eyes as he swung us around. I was the happiest I had been in my entire life but, a part of me feared what was to come. But, in this moment...nothing else mattered. I just wanted to spend the rest of the time we had left in his arms. He pulled me to his lips, kissing me softly.
I smiled as he slid the ring on my finger. He pulled me towards him, lifting me as I wrapped my legs around his waist. I kissed him, tugging on his lip softly. He growled, laying me on the bed.
We spent the next few hours making love, without any worries of what was coming tonight.
