Shit, what have I just done?

That is the first thought when I walk into my apartment after Nate drops me off as I stare at the ring on my finger.

《A couple of minutes ago》

"Yes, yes yes" I answer with tears streaming down my face. And he jumps up to kiss me.

Fuck why on earth did I just say yes to marrying him?

Don't get me wrong I do love Nate, but more in a best-friend kind of way.

Well, what did you think was going to happen you were going to date forever and not get married?

I guess my conscience is right.

I know I should have seen this coming; he was acting strange all week.

With that thought still in my head, I change into my pajamas and fall asleep.

NEXT DAY

Today is Saturday. Nate and I are heading to my parent's house to share the 'good news'.

After packing my bags, Nate picks me up and we are on the road.

...years ago, you captured my heart by being exactly who you are.

The sweetest, most loving, most compassionate, and most beautiful person I have ever known. You have been my rock and best friend through the good and the bad.

You have been the reason that I smile, and you have given me comfort beyond measure when I have been down.

You have believed in me when no one else would, and you have shown me how to love with passion, purity, and unconditional acceptance. I promise the rest of my days I will spend by your side.

To laugh with you and cry with you to believe in you and support you.

Melanie, I love you with my whole heart, body, and soul and I promise to show you for the rest of our lives together, will you make me the luckiest man alive by marrying me and becoming Melanie Rose Larson?"

Wait what? Larson?

"Hey M. Wake up, we are here." Nate wakes me up. When I slowly start to wake, I see we are in front of my parents' house.

Now, why was I dreaming about Ava proposing to me and not Nate?

"Mel?" My mom asked standing in front of me. When did she even come out of the house?

"Hey, mom." I smile and hug her.

"Hello, my love, are you okay? You zoned out a bit." Make sense. Because I just fucking dreamt of Ava Larson for the first time in 4 Years.

"She is fine Mrs. Newman, she just woke up, so I guess she is still waking up." Thank you, Nate, for that explanation.

"Ohh you guys must be hungry, I just finished making lunch. Come in, come in." When my mom isn't in court or at her firm, she is in the kitchen cooking or cleaning.

When we are inside the house my mom shows us to our rooms too. Yup, you heard me rooms as in plural.

Even though Nate and I have been dating for 3 years, my mom gives us separate rooms. But not that Nate minds he is also a 'wait till marriage' kind of guy.

We were all sitting at the kitchen counter, eating lunch when I chose to speak.

"So, Mom, Dad. Nate and I have something to tell you." I grabbed Nate's arm. I lift my hand to show my parents the ring.

My mom gasped when she finally noticed. And my dad just stares wide eyes. "Our baby girl is getting married!!!!" My mom shoves my dad to get his attention. "We have to have an engagement party!!!" Of course, my mother always must go all out with everything.

"Mom, I don't think that is necessary." I try to reason with her.

"Nonsense, my only daughter is getting married." More like she wants to show off her money.

"Honey, I think that is a wonderful idea, we can invite the Carters and the Hunters, oh and the Larson's maybe the..."

"The Larson's?" I interrupt my dad.

"Of course, Hunny. You know we have been close friends for years, and besides, you are getting married to the love of your life, Nate."

Of course, my mom had to add the last part as if what happened between Ava and me was just a mistake and nothing more.

So, I just force a smile at them and say, " Of course, can't wait."

"Great I'll send out the invitations tomorrow, we can maybe do it in a week, I'll hire the caters and we can do it at our house." God my mom is more excited about me getting married than I am supposed to be.

"Have you guys decided on a date yet?"

"Um no sir, I only asked her last night. So, we didn't have a chance yet to discuss anything." No matter how many times my parents tell Nate to call them Maddie and Grey. He sticks with formality.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you, the Larson's will be having dinner with us tonight."

Fuck.
