God, she is more gorgeous than the last time I saw her. It was 5 years ago so I guess that makes sense.
"Babe, why don't you go get me a drink." Lizzy interrupts my gaze at the woman I fell in love with, in high school.
Why the fuck did I bring her with me again?
"Why don't you go get your drink?" I look at her next to me, forcing a smile.
When I look up, Mel is gone. Fuck I lost her, looking around I notice she is nowhere to be seen. When I see a plum-coloured dress slip outside to the garden.
She used to love the garden; I remember every time I came to visit, we would spend hours under the tree in the shade.
Looking to see where Lizzy went, I'm not surprised she is flirting with some guy.
Slipping outside after Mel, her back facing me.
"Shit, my feet are killing me." I hear her talking to herself.
"You know when we were younger, you used to tell me you would never wear heels. You said it was the creation of the devil himself to punish women." I don't think she expected anyone to know she was here, because I see her stiff, or maybe she didn't expect it to be me.
Sitting down next to her. "I still stand by that," She mumbles, but I hear her.
"This is quite a party Ms. Fiancé," I say humorously, but to be honest I was hurt when my mum told me that she was getting married.
And finally, she looks up at me. Those beautiful, hazel-coloured eyes.
"Hey M, your mom..." The guy says that I earlier saw Lizzy flirting with him.
"Ava this is my fiancé, Nate. Nate this is Ava an... old friend from high school." I just raise my eyebrows, to be honest, it does hurt that she just called me a friend, but I haven't expected anything otherwise. The reason why I lifted my eyebrows, is the person to whom she is engaged was flirting back with Lizzy just a couple of minutes ago.
"It's very nice to meet you." He offers his hand to shake. "M, your mum is calling. Dinner is almost being served." With that, I walk behind them.
At the table, I see Mel looking at Lizzy next to me, strangely.
"I'm sorry but, who are you, I don't think we have met before?" Of course, she doesn't know. I didn't think Lizzy was important enough to introduce her to Melanie.
Looking at Nate, I see he is a bit nervous. Yeah, I thought he might be. Because the girl he was flirting with was sitting across from his fiancé.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm Lizzie. Ava's girl-."
"Date." I interrupt her. There is no way I am going allowed to let her introduce herself as my girlfriend. Never going to happen, I don't even know why I bought her as my date.
I see Melanie nod slowly. "I just want to say, congratulations on the engagement, you are a very lucky woman to be marrying such a handsome man." She says eyeing Nate.
Look it doesn't bother me that she is flirting with anyone for that matter, I don't care what she does or who she does. But Nate is a different story. I mean the guy is engaged.
"Why don't you pay more attention to your 'date' rather than check out my extremely handsome fiancé," Ouch that hurts, fuck I wished I didn't bring her tonight.
Because seeing Melanie get jealous was always the sexiest thing; I just wish it wasn't for this prick she calls her fiancé.
She was quiet for the rest of the time until desserts were being served.
I couldn't help but stare at Melanie through the whole dinner, she was busy talking to a girl next to her, I would be lying if I said she isn't pretty, but no one compares to Mel.
And then Lizzy decided to open that mouth of hers.
"Are you sure you should be eating dessert? I mean after all that food." What the actual fuck.
"Lizzie, that's enough," I say beginning to get very angry. Melanie has the most amazing body of any girl I have seen.
"No, it's fine Ava. At least I don't have anorexia like your so-called date over here." I can see Mel got feistier. I just smirk, I mean she is right. Lizzy almost didn't even touch her food during dinner.
Before Lizzie could comment, Melanie's Dad clings to the champagne glass. Telling everyone to be quiet.
"Thank you everyone for coming tonight." Her dad starts.
"Tonight, we are celebrating the engagement of my beautiful daughter, Melanie, and her fiancé Nate." I can see from the corner of my eye Nate grabbing Melanie's hand.
When I see the way Nate looks at Melanie, with love. I can't help but notice that she looks... guilty.
Why would she feel guilty if it's not like she is flirting with someone who isn't her fiancé?
Just staring at their hands, I can feel Mel's stare. I can't believe she can't see what a douche this guy is.
