"Ask yourself this Mel. Whose life are you living, yours or your parents?"
I don't seem to get those words out of my head the whole week.
I mean, of course, I'm living my own life, just in the way my parents want me to live it.
"So, what did you want to tell me so urgently?" Asked Anna
Anna and I met in the first year of college. She is also studying to become a teacher and we are both in our last year.
This morning, I asked Anna to meet me at Kate's Coffee House. We found this place and instantly fell in love.
"Okay, so my mom is throwing my engagement party tomorrow and I still haven't found anything to wear." I haven't told Anna about the proposal yet so I'm waiting for her to realize.
"Well, why are we still sitting here...wait did you just say YOUR engagement part?" She stares at me with wide eyes.
I lift my hand to show her my ring. She squeals with excitement "How, when did this happen!!! And why am I only finding out now?"
While I was telling her the story of how Nate proposed, and that I didn't tell her because we went to my parents' last weekend. Come to think of it, I also haven't seen her all week.
We pay the bill, and we are on our way to the mall to find something to wear.
" Hay Ann, I was wondering..." I asked nervously.
"Come on Mel spit it out." That's one thing about Anna she is never afraid to say what's on her mind.
"Would you maybe be my maid of honor?" I asked her with a smile.
"OF COURSE, MEL, WHY WOULD YOU BE NERVOUS TO ASK ME? I'D LOVE TO BE YOUR MAID OF HONOUR!!!" Oh, and I forgot to mention she is also very overdramatic.
"Okay fuck, there is no reason to fucking scream my head off. We are in a store." I look around me to see people eyeing us weirdly like we are crazy.
"Shit sorry." She gives me an apologetic smile.
After a while, I found my dress. It's a beautiful plum-coloured dress with a slit, and I have the perfect high heels to go with it. And yesterday, I had my nails done.
Anna also found a gorgeous, emerald dress that fits her perfectly.
Anna is a very slim girl, with long light brown hair. And brown eyes.
When I got home, I hung up my dress so it wouldn't get crested. I packed my bags for the weekend, Nate will pick me up tomorrow morning early so that we can arrive early at my parent's house.
Anna and I grabbed an early supper so that we could sleep early for tomorrow. We decided that Anna would be riding with us.
Like a mini road trip, and if I know Anna at all, she will be playing music the whole way to my parent's house.
I have been so busy today with class and looking for my dress that I haven't had time to become nervous about the engagement party. But as I lay in bed all my anxiousness kicked in.
Will Ava be there? I mean my mother did invite the Larsons. Maybe she wouldn't come. I mean it would be nice to see her after 5 years. Sure, we dated but before that, we used to be best friends throughout Primary and High school.
I just miss my best friend.
With that thought, I dozed off to sleep.

And like I suspected, Anna blasted music the whole way and I couldn't even close my eyes for a second.
When we arrived at my parents' house there were only a few cars outside. Probably the event planners and caters.
We always lived in a big house with 6 rooms, 6 bathrooms, and 2 dining rooms. I presume that one will be used for the party tonight.
Walking into the house, it's absolute chaos. Everyone is running around, and my mum and Mrs. Larson are telling everyone where to put what.
"Oh, darling you are just in time." My mom says while kissing me on both cheeks.
"The hair and makeup artist will be here any minute now to do your and Anna's hair and makeup so go on up and show her to a room to put her belongings away, and you know where Nate usually sleeps." Of course, my mom had to go all out with hair, makeup, and all. Should have mentally prepared myself for it.
"Mum, it's only 11 now the party starts at 6." That leaves us with 7 hours to get ready.
"WHAT, 11? Oh no, we are running behind." She says looking at her watch. Not wanting to be around my mum when she is this frantic, Nate, Anna and I make our way up to our rooms.
What a night this truly is going to be.
