*Ring*

"MELANIE, WOULD YOU MIND GETTING THE DOOR?!?!" My mother shouts from the kitchen.

As I open the door, I can feel my heart sink into my shoes. "What are you doing here?" I whisper yell.

"Well, your parents invited me for dinner." He says with a smug smirk that I just want to hit off his face, again.

"Ahh Nate. Welcome, please come in." My father says as he comes into view.

"Good evening, Mr. Newmen," Nate says greeting my father with a handshake.

"Please son, how many times should I tell you to call me Grey?" Okay, so I guess we are just going to forget that he cheated on me.

Not long after Nate had arrived, the doorbell rang again. Who did my mother invite this time?

"Melanie, the Larson's are here." When my mom said that name it was like my whole body froze. It feels like I am going to vomit.

It is like my brain had a mind of its own, because before I can notice what is happening. I am standing in front of Emily.

"Oh, dear, are you okay? It looks like you just saw a ghost." Emily looks at me with concern.

"Oh, she's fine," Nate says coming into view for everyone to see. Ava looked at him and then back to me, I swore I saw hurt flash through her eyes, but it was so quick. I could be mistaken.

After everyone has arrived, we all have a drink.

"Please come to the table, dinner will be served." My mother comes into the living room. As we are seated, I notice that Nate is sitting next to me.

"Mel, dear. Are you already? You haven't said much since we arrived." Emily asked me.

"Oh, I'm sorry. My mind is a little...occupied." I say, but I am waiting for things to go wrong. Because I have a sickening feeling in my gut that it is going to.

Before she could say anything else, my mom entered with the food. As we were eating our supper and the conversation flowed around the table, I felt Nate's hand making his way on my leg.

I swat it away and glare at him. Only if looks could kill. When my father interrupted.

"So, Nate, I was going to ask you earlier, but it kept slipping my mind. How on earth did you get that black eye?" And with that, the sickening feeling grew.

"Why don't you tell them, Mel?" Nate looks at me, with a smirk. Like he planned all of this.

"Ugh... how would I know how you got a black eye?" I ask, giving a face chuckle.

"Well, seeing as you have it to me." He speaks.

Everyone gasps except Ava. " Melanie Rose Newman, you apologize at once." My mother says.

"Why should I Mother, he is lying. Cheating son of a bitch, there is no way in hell that I will apologize to him." I know I should not have reacted like that, because that is exactly what he wanted.

"Melanie! Your language around the table!" My father raises his voice at me.

"How many times am I supposed to say sorry? It was a mistake, an accident." Nate continues to get a rattle out of me.

"An accident? So, your tongue ACCIDENTALLY slipped down her throat, or...or did your dick ACCIDENTALLY slipped into her vagina? Which one was it?"

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" My father shouts, standing up and hitting the table.

"The whole room went quiet; Nate and I kept looking at each other. I can see the satisfied look on his face.

Wanting to wipe it off of his face, and so I did. I hit his other eye, so hard that he fell off of the chair.

"Is that what you wanted? To come into my home and get back at me?" I ask him towering over him.

He just starts laughing. "At least I'm not pretending to be someone I'm not." And it is like the whole room froze just from those words Nate said.

"Melanie...what is he talking about?" My mother asked. And suddenly I am hit with Deja vu, back to when I was 18 years old. But this time, it is going to have a different outcome.

"Mother, Father." I start, looking at them.

"Mel, don't," Ava says. I just looked at her, and at that moment I knew that I was not going to make the same mistake again.

"I am, and always will be in love with Ava." I started but before my parents could interrupt me.

"And there is nothing that you can do to change that. So, you have a choice, you can either support me and at least try to understand or. You don't, and you will never see me or your grandchildren."
