Elaine tossed and turned around in bed. She cuddled her pillow for a while. Then she got up and walked over to the wall mirror. As expected, her eyes were puffy and she looked like a mess. Elaine sighed and made her way to the bathroom. She washed her face with an abundant supply of cold water.

After she was wide awake, she walked over to her closet wearing the red dress shirt and black skinny jeans Maire had picked out for her yesterday. She threw on a pair of red converse brushed through her hair, taming the curls.

She knew she had been a melodramatic idiot the day before. She planned on asking Maire for advice today. Also, she definitely planned on apologizing to Neill. She was highly embarrassed of her behaviour but that didn't make what Neill did, any better. There was virtually no justification to what he did.

She heard Maire's Mustang honk and flinging her bag on her shoulder, she made her way to the door.

'Howdy lady? Please tell me you got laid last night', greeted Maire.

'Haha, you say that like you get laid everyday. Or like you're comfortable with me getting laid'.

'Well I won't mind you being intimate with the love of your life. Admittedly I'll be a bit jealous but I'll learn to cope.'

The love of her life, thought Elaine. Maire had always been considerate. She knew how love was a sensitive subject to Elaine. Yet, these days Maire just kept rubbing it in her face, and Elaine wasn't stupid enough to let it pass as unintentional. Maire wanted Elaine to move on. It hurt Maire to see Elaine slowly kill herself over a guy, who was now gone.

She knew that it was heartless on her part, but prayed that it would prove beneficial in the longer run.

'Listen El, give him a chance, okay? I know Neill is not Ian. He never will be. But you can be close to him without forgetting Ian. Ian will always be there. Nobody can take his place. But honestly, that doesn't mean you don't live your life.'

This proposition was immediately forgotten by Maire when Elaine narrated the events of the previous evening.

'That bastard!' she yelled taking a sharp turn, 'who the hell does he think he is barging into your house uninvited?'

As Elaine hastily put the seat belt in place, she thought about what Maire said. Maire was right, Ian didn't have to leave her for her to move on. That definitely didn't mean giving that creepy, bossy jerk a chance. But it lifted the weight from her shoulders. Melting under Neill's gaze didn't mean Ian's eyes were any less important to her. With these scattered thoughts, Elaine made her way inside the school. She planned on apologizing to Neill when she saw him. It would look too pretentious, if she looked him up and went up to him, just so say sorry. She didn't want it to come across as a big deal.

Elaine and Maire were now walking towards their lockers. As Elaine rounded the corner her heart sank 500 miles below her. There, right in front of her locker stood Neill, in a fierce make out session with Ian's blonde.

Elaine successfully willed the tears to go back. She would not cry. Not again, she thought fiercely as a classic sense of deja vu hit her.

She made her way to her locker, as she rummaged her bag for something. Once she stood right behind Neill, she took her water bottle out. Opening the cap, she tilted it upside down on Neill's head who was still passionately kissing the blonde.

The moment the cold water hit Neill, a gasp escaped his lips as he whirled around angrily glaring at Elaine. If looks could kill, thought Maire, Elaine would be dead. But she could swear, the moment Neill's eyes met Elaine's they softened by a fraction. But this, of course wasn't sufficient to get rid of Neill's burning anger.

Elaine was uncomfortably turned on when she saw Neill like this. His hair was dripping. She wanted nothing more than to fist her hands around it. Then, Elaine started wondering how good that angular jaw would feel under her lips.. A thought she had never had before for another guy.

'What the-?' Neill started angrily, pulling Elaine out of her little fantasy.

His outburst was cut short by Elaine.

'Please continue this some place that is not my locker.' she said, sounding bored but dangerous simultaneously. 'You see it is hard to get my books when you're snogging against my locker. But you are more than welcome to fuck her in front of your own locker', she smiled sweetly.

'Move!' she added to the blonde who was now in a deep fit of giggles.

With that, she took her notebook out of the locker and marched away. Neill thought he had been slapped in the face. This was definitely not the response he was expecting. She was supposed to feel mad with jealousy. And then possibly express her undying love for him. Elaine wasn't supposed to suggest him to fuck the Blonde. Shit what was wrong with her? His lips still felt sour, as though he had fed on acid. Touching someone but your mate did that to you.

He saw Maire walking towards him.

'Way to go with ruining your chances, jerk. She's Elaine, she doesn't fall for cheap tactics like jealousy. You won't get her this way, you'll only hurt her further and make her feel unwanted. And I don't allow random guys to make Elaine feel bad'. With that, she turned around to leave.

'Then help me. You are her friend!', Neill called after her. 'Either help me get her, or back the fuck off and mind your own business.'

Maire rounded to glare at Neill. She stared at him for a long moment as though assessing the truth of his emotions. Then she raised her eyebrow and walked over to Neill.

'My place, at 7', she said. Neill's face broke out into a grin.

'Don't screw up. Don't touch any other girl. If you even dare to hurt Elaine, I won't care if it was unintended. I will break your neck. Stay away from her' , she said, nodding towards the Blonde.

'Possessive much? Plus, I can't help that girls literally chase after me', smirked Neill.

Maire instinctively slapped Neil hard on his shoulder.

'Just so you know, I meant what I said. See you at 7', added Maire merrily, walking towards the corridor where Elaine had vanished a while ago, leaving behind an utterly stunned Neill.
