Maire sat there watching Ben 10 when the door bell rang. She had excused herself from going to Elaine's place after school on pretence of completing her piles of homework.
'Since when did you start doing homework', a highly annoyed Elaine had asked. Maire had laughed it off. She felt bad for dumping her, but this was important.
When Maire opened the door, Neill stood there in a black shirt and dark blue jeans. He was admittedly hot. Just perfect for Elaine. But then the love struck fool had always been blind to anyone but Ian. Maire saw that changing and she would do anything to make it happen. Plus, Neill didn't seem like a bad guy, if only you excluded him being a stuck up jerk who tied up with a Blonde to make Elaine jealous. Oh, and he was very possessive. Plus, he was a flirt. And he had no manners. Okay, maybe he wasn't all that perfect. But he was Maire's best shot at bringing Elaine back to life.
'I know I'm hot, but we can't hookup. I have a major thing for your friend and it won't work out. So stop staring', Neill spoke.
Maire scoffed.
'Sure', she replied sarcastically, 'I'm dying to take you to bed.'
Neill rolled his eyes and stepped in without being invited. So, he said looking around, 'where do we start?'
'We start,' said Maire leading the way to the lounge, 'by you answering three questions for me.'
'Okay.' he said flopping down on the couch.
'You really do think you own the world, don't you?' Maire raised an eyebrow.
'I don't?' Neill asked, feigning confusion.
'Jerk', Maire said shaking her head.
'One,' she continued, 'convince me why you like Elaine. I won't fall for any lovey dovey jargon where you speak rehearsed lines and your eyes go hazy. I want real reason.
Two, convince me that you just don't want her to sleep with you and that you won't dump her or break her heart once you have her.
Three, show me how you will make Elaine the happiest person on earth. Then, I'll help you win her over. Which, is a very tough task.'
'You know there is just one answer to all your questions.' Neill said slowly, as if deep in thought.
'Well?' said Maire impatiently after about a minute of silence.
'I'm not so sure if you I can tell you. I probably can as I'm alpha, but I don't know if I want to. You might not take it right.' he said, more talking to himself than to Maire.
'Thinking too much doesn't suit you. I like the dumb look on your face better', said Maire casually.
'Dude! This is serious.' Complained Neill.
'Oh, so now YOU are asking ME to be serious? Listen dude, whatever it is, spill. I won't freak out or tell on you. We're both doing this for Elaine, remember?'
'And you won't cry?' asked Neill looking Maire straight in the eye.
'And I won't cry.' repeated Maire sincerely.
'How insane would I sound if I say the word soulmate?'
Maire's eyes widened and she gasped.
'Shit, please. No!' she whispered.
'No, what?' Neill said narrowing his eyes.
Maire closed her eyes and took a deep breath. 'Please don't tell me Elaine's your mate.'
