Demi's POV
A loud crash of thunder woke me up. I realized that it was pouring down rain. A flash of lighting, then another thunder. As the loud noise echoed through my big house, I heard my door swing open and hit the wall. I turned my body around to face my doorway. Alexa was standing there with tears in her eyes. "Lexi, what's wrong?" Another flash, and she came running to my bed as the thunder sounded. I quickly wrapped my arms around her. "It's okay," I said as I held her. "It's just thunder."
"It's so loud."
"Just think of it this way: It's outside, and you're in here, with me," I reminded her. She nodded, then held me even tighter as another round of thunder came.
"Can I sleep with you, Demi?" She asked In a whisper.
"Of course," I responded as I started to lay both of us down in my bed. I brought the covers over both of our shoulders as I continued to hold Alexa. I felt her jump with every crash of loud thunder.
"When will it stop?"
"Soon." We listened to the rain for a little while, then another flash of lightning followed by thunder, which made Alexa jump again. "I'll sing if you want," I offered. Alexa nodded.
"I can't sleep tonight,
wide awake and so confused.
Everything's in line,
but I am bruised.
I need a voice to echo,
I need a light to take me home,
I kind of need a hero,
Is it you?
I never see the forest for the trees.
I could really use your melody.
Baby, I'm a little blind,
I think it's time,
For you to find me.
Can you be my nightingale?
Sing to me
I know you're there.
You could be
my sanity,
Bring me peace,
Sing me to sleep.
Say you'll be my nightingale."
As I continued to sing softly, Alexa started to relax more and more, until I felt her steady breathing on my neck, and I knew she was asleep.
Super short filler chapter, sorry. I know this book isn't very long, but I'm thinking of ending it soon. I just don't know where I'm going with it. Any suggestions?
