Alexa's POV
I finished eating before Demi did. I guess I eat really fast, but I was so hungry. As I waited for Demi to finish, I asked her a question I had been wondering about. I grabbed my notebook and started writing.
What happened to Mike and Christy?
Demi cleared her throat before talking. "The police found them, and now they can't hurt you anymore."
Then I wrote down, Where did the other kids go?
"They all went to other care homes. they're all okay." She took another bit of food. "Did you like the other kids there?" She asked. I looked down and shook my head. I actually didn't really know any of the kids. They never talked to me. I just saw them around, but I don't even know if they noticed me. I was sort of invisible to them. "Well, it's still a good thing they found a safer place to be." I nodded.
After Demi finished, she got me an apple juice to go and paid. We walked back out to her car, one of my hands holding my notebook and the other holding my apple juice. "Are you okay with going to the mall?" Demi asked while climbing into the car and looking back at me.
Why? I wrote down.
"You need clothes. You have absolutely zero except for what you're wearing. Also, we can get some stuff to decorate your room with."
I get a room?
Demi smiled. "Of course. I wasn't going to make you live on the couch." I smiled back at her. "To the mall it is. Do you want music?" I nodded my head. She turned on her radio, and a beat filled the car. I liked the music she played. It was fun to just listen to. Demi sang along to a lot of them, which I really liked, too. She has a really pretty voice.
It didn't take long to get to the mall. I think about five songs played before Demi pulled into a parking lot. The building was really big. Demi took my hand as we walked into the mall. "Listen, if people come up to me and seem really excited, don't be scared. There might be cameras and yelling, but it'll be okay." I nodded in understanding and took a drink of my apple juice which I hadn't finished yet. The inside was even bigger than the outside! I stared in amazement. There were so many different stores. It was weird how many places you could fit into one huge building. The first store Demi took me in was a clothing store. There were a lot of kids looking through the clothes. Well, the parents were looking more than the kids were. A lot of them were running around chasing each other while their parents tried to stop them. Then they would cry when their parents took them out of the store. I hoped the adults weren't going to hurt them. "Where do you want to start looking? Shirt? Pants? Skirts?" Demi asked. I looked around and pointed to the dresses. We walked over to them and started looking. I liked a lot of them. "First, let's see what size you wear. Pick out a dress, then you can try it on." I grabbed a simple white dress with lace sleeves. "Cute," Demi said as we walked to the dressing rooms. We both into one. I tried on the dress. "Hmm, a little too big on the shoulders." Demi was right, the sleeves were falling off. "Wait here, I'll grab a size smaller. Demi left, then returned a few minutes later with the same dress. I put it on, and it felt much more comfortable. "Great, that's your size. Let's go pick some more out." I put back on my own clothes, then followed Demi back to the dresses. I picked out seven that I really liked. They all fit. I thought I was done, back Demi lead me to more clothes.
I tugged on the bottom of Demi's shirt and wrote down, I don't need too much.
She smiled down at me. "I'm taking care of you now, and right now, you can get as much as you'd like." I smiled back and went back to looking through clothes. When we were done with the first store, we moved on to the next. More clothes! I loved picking stuff out. Demi said I had a really girly style. "I was going to take you to look at stuff for your room, but you seem really tired." I nodded. I was. We had been walking around for a long time, and the bags we were carrying were heavy. As we made our way back out to the car, we kept getting stopped by people. I just wanted to go back to Demi's house so I could go to sleep, but she stopped for every person that came up to her. We finally got back to her car, and it didn't take long for me to fall asleep.
