Demi's POV

I woke up with Alexa still in my arms. She slept so peacefully. How could anyone hurt an angel face like hers? I knew it didn't feel right leaving her with those people. I remembered that I needed to get her clothes, unless she was going to walk around in an oversized T-shirt all day. I grabbed my phone and called a very trusted person.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Marissa, I didn't wake you, did I?" I asked my best friend.

"No, I've been up for a while. Why?"

"Can you maybe stop by a store or something to pick up some clothes?"

"Um, sure, what do you want?"

"Anything that will fit a four-year-old girl." I knew Alexa was six, but she was so small. I waited during the silence. "That includes underwear."

I heard her sigh. "Demi, why do have a four-year-old girl?"

"She's six, but small."

"Why do you have a kid with you?"

"It's a long story, but I'm taking care of her. At least for today," I said, looking down at the sleeping little girl beside me.

"Okay, I'll be right over with clothes."

"You're the best, thanks."

I stroked Alexa's hair while waiting for Marissa to come. Maybe I could adopt Alexa. How much trouble could she be? She's a good little girl so far. I jumped back to reality at the sound of my doorbell. I carefully got out of bed and walked down the stairs to my front door. "Thanks, Mar, I owe you."

"No problem, I'm always here. So what's the story?"

"Well, after my last concert, I went to ea with the crew. On the way back to the bus, I saw her sitting alone in the cold rain, and I couldn't just leave her there. Yesterday morning, I took her back to her care home, but she showed up at my doorstep in the middle of the night. She was beaten up really bad. So she slept here with me."

"What are you going to do?"

I let out a sigh. "I really don't know. I need to report the people in the care home first."

"What are you going to do with the kid?" I bit the side of my bottom lip without answering. "You aren't going to keep her, are you?" I gave her a half-smile. "Demi, your career. Having a little kid running around can mess a lot of things up for you."

"But Mar, she needs someone. She can't just be passed on to another care home right after an abusive one. That's not good for her. It's not good for anyone."

"I understand that," Marissa said while nodding. "So, is she cute?"

I gave her a huge smile. "Adorable."

"Can I see her?"

I nodded and led my friend to my room. She put her hands over her mouth when she saw the figure on my bed. Alexa was now awake and alert that another person was in the house. "Lexi, this is my best friend, Marissa." Alexa shifted her eyes from me to Marissa, then back to me.

"Demi, she's so cute," Marissa said. I nodded. Under all her cuts and bruises, she was a very cute, very pretty six-year-old. "Doesn't talk much, huh?"

"Hasn't said a word," I responded as Alexa shrunk back. I don't know if she was ashamed of it or what.

"Well, I got to go. Nice to meet you, Lexi." Alexa gave her a small wave, and I walked Marissa to the door.

"Thanks again for the clothes. No problem. We should get together again. It's been too long."

"Yeah, definitely. Bye!" I called out as she made her way to her car. First things first: File a report on those people.
