Demi's POV
Alexa didn't sleep well. Even after the storm had passed, she kept waking up. It was hard for me to sleep because of her squirming around while she was awake.
I opened my tired eyes to see Alexa already awake. She looked really tired, though. "Good morning," I whispered.
"My throat hurts," she whispered back while scooting closer to me.
"Do you feel okay other than that?" I asked.
She shook her head. "My head hurts." I noticed her breathing through her mouth. She must a stuffy nose.
I felt her head, and she did feel a little warm. "I'll be right back," I said as I crawled out of bed and into my bathroom. After finding the thermometer, I returned back to my bed where I had left Alexa. "Here, put this under your tongue," I said after I turned the thermometer on. I heard it beep, then took it out of Alexa's mouth. 100.2. "Just a little fever," I said. I put the thermometer on my nightstand, then pulled Alexa in close.
"Demi?" Alexa asked in a hoarse voice.
"Yeah?"
"My throat still hurts."
"Oh, right, sorry. Come on, we'll get you some medicine." I carried her to the kitchen, as she didn't feel like walking. Her head was laid on my shoulder. I set her down on the kitchen floor, then looked though my medicine cabinet. I didn't really have much in there. I realized that I had never gotten any children's medicine. "We're going to have to go to the store," I said in an 'I'm sorry' tone.
"Why?" Alexa groaned.
"I don't think I have anything safe for you to take." I thought for a moment. "Do you want me to call Marissa and see if she can pick some up?" Alexa nodded. "Okay," I said, picking her back up and carrying her back to my bed where my phone was. I tapped Marissa's name in my phone, then put it up to my ear.
"Hello?" Marissa asked once she picked up.
"Hey, I didn't wake you, did I?" I asked.
"No, did you just wake up?"
"Yeah, not too long ago."
"You slept in a bit," she said with a chuckle.
I looked at the time. 12:45. "Yikes. Anyways, Lexi's sick, and I don't have any medicine safe for kids. She doesn't want to get out, so I was going to ask the huge favor of picking some up?"
"Sure. Do you want me to get some soup for her, too?"
"Yeah, that would be good."
"Okay, I'll get right on that. What does she need it for?"
"Soar throught, headache, and she also has a stuffy nose," I listed off as I glanced at Alexa, who was already looking at me.
"Okay, I'll be over there as soon as possible."
"Thank you thank you!"
"Sure, no problem. Bye!" After she hung up, I turned back to Alexa.
"Marissa's going to be here soon, okay?" Alexa nodded, then rubbed her tired eyes. I let her sleep until Marissa got here.
"Thank you so much," I said as I opened my front door.
"Sure, it was no big deal. I wasn't doing anything, anyway," Marissa responded. "But I do have to go. I have a meeting in a couple of hours."
"Okay, well thank you again."
She left, and I went back to Alexa. "Lexi, I have some things in here to make you feel better," I said softly. "Come on, let's go to the kitchen." I picked her up, then went into my kitchen. I set her down so I could get her medicine. I poured the liquid into a small measuring cup, then gave it to her. "Don't drink it yet," I said as I grabbed a regular cup from my cabinet. I filled it with water, then handed it to Alexa. "You'll want this, too." Alexa drank her medicine, then frowned. "That's why I gave you water." She nodded, then handed me the cup that the medicine was in. I washed it out in the sink as she drank her water.
"Can I go back to bed?" She asked.
"Do you want to eat something first? You have soup," I offered. She shook her head. "Okay." I carried her to her room, then tucked her in her bed. "Just yell if you need something, okay?" She nodded, then closed her eyes. I kissed her forehead before leaving her room.
